Dealing Smith

Description
I don't think this is will really happen, but the only way I see the pens making a trade(s) to try and improve the team this season is moving someone like Smith. To me no one else is realistic to free up some cap (Rust is having a very strong season, Rakell's contract is highly unattractive, Eller/Acciari don't move the needle, Carter obviously isn't waiving + you'd have to pay to move him).

Good year, and only a season and a half left on his contract. (yes i know he has 10 team NTC, not sure who they'd be, ANA could definitely be one)

If you move him I think the goal would be to try and find a team that has a Center on their final year of contract that could become your 3C and then look to add a scoring winger elsewhere.

**not necessarily saying the value below is correct but this is just an example of the kind of deal I would try to make/find (acquire a LW + C)**

Smith isn't deadweight or not worth his contract by any stretch, so this isn't a cap dump. The pens could just realistically find 2 players for the price of one guy.

Two risky moves in Vrana and Puljujarvi, but they're lower cost and if they pay off... great.

It sounded like he was going to be waived this morning but they're going to see if they can find a trade. 25% retention, I can't believe that costs much given the fact again that he was going to get waived.

ANA
  1. Poulin, Samuel
  2. Smith, Reilly
Additional Details:
I know in the offseason Ducks fans said 2nd and someone like Poulin would get Henrique at 50% but curious if something like this would work. Poulin is the retention and smith and henrique are 1:1 essentially. I know Zegras is hurt, but feel like they're pretty deep down the center and can't imagine they're resign Henrique in the off-season. So this would give them and upgrade on the wing and open space in the middle for Zegras/Strome/Carlsson.

Probably not, were looking to give roster spots to the young kids.

Are there young wingers? (Genuinely don't know). Smith is still valuable I feel and could help a team like the ducks. Worst case they deal him next year at deadline and add assets.

I do get that though, and like I said in the description, not necessarily has to go to ANA but this is the type of deal I'd look to find.

Pavol Regenda is looking pretty damn good, we're looking to bring him up. Also the possibility we take a swing at one of the 1RWs expected to hit the market this season in Reinbacher or W. Nylander.

Smiths a good player on a decent deal, but we can't keep packing the roster with short term vets.

Totally understandable (Nylander would be fun on that team....)

Just trying to find what could be a good match even though i'm not sure it happens.

I can see it, if Ana had someone waiting to flip Smith to.

That could be an option I suppose... Giggy mentioned they don't really have a need.

That style of trade would be ideally what i'm looking for.

Wennberg in seattle another option.

Just depends on Smith's 10 teams.

A lot of fans want the team to make a trade and try to continue making a run for playoffs.

Just giving an example of what I think the only possible route would be.
