Pettersson should also be a big upgrade over Bahl in terms of being in that shutdown pair with Marino that gets the fun task of hard matching with guys like McDavid and Pasta. Were paired together in pittsburgh so should mesh right in.

Unfortunately I think the NTC kills the deal. Haula loves NJD, which is why he took a bit of a discount to stay.

But if there were no NTC I think I'd even be willing to throw in a pick/player/prospect to get it over the edge. Not really but I think in the off-season they should consider moving him for cost controlled help in the bottom 6. I think if we resign him at probably ?7mil? We'll have too much cap committed to defense with Joseph, Ludvig, Shea, Smith and eventual Pickering who should be able to step up

No. I don't think any of our 3rd pairing options are anything more than that. Pettersson is our top LHD and top defensive defenseman. I like Haula, but I think Pettersson provides the Pens much more value than Haula does.

This destroys the left side of the defense. Graves has been atrocious this year and POJ can't handle top 4 minutes.

That return is weak and they shouldn't even consider moving Pettersson. No one can replace him in our system.
