Why would San Jose do that (which they can't anyway because max retention slots)

There's no incentive for Winnipeg to help Toronto out and give Stanley away for nothing.

From the Jets perspective, the only way Stanley gets traded this year is as a throw-in or a sweetener. Otherwise, he's worth more to the Jets as playoff depth than than some draft picks. He'll only be dealt as part of a package to acquire something the Jets need (2c, 1RHD).
