Pens Decline. Not even a question. This move makes no sense for them. No picks, no prospects. Carrier would be a nice addition and definitely help the pens but not for the price of Guentzel. Pending UFA or not. My money says your more likely see Rust or Rakell to go before they let go of Guentzel.

but you answered your question on why it won't be Rust and Rakell, because Guentzel is a pending ufa that Dallas does not have account in next years cap as they don't want Rakell or Rusts extra 4 or 5 years and they need Carrier to help save this season and draft picks are not going to help the Penguins win in the short window before Sid, Geno and Letang leave

I wasn’t suggesting Rust or Rakell to Dallas to clarify. I was simply saying they are more like to move Rakell or Rust to whomever they can work a deal with to free up the space to resign Guentzel.

As for Carrier, as promising as he is and as well as he’s played thus far, they’re gonna need a lot more than him to “Win now”. In that same token if the pens are in win now mode, which they are. Moving their point per game winger for another offensive minded defensemen when they already have Karlsson & Letang.

This trade just wouldn’t make sense for them in anyway unless they’re looking to sell and if that’s the case they’re going to be searching for players like Carrier…yes to fill the void temporarily if they are trying to do a quick rebuild which is unlikely given Sid, Geno, and Tangers age. That ship has sailed. So now if they go rebuild it’s gonna be a whole sale for prospects and picks.

Honestly when it comes to the pens and their stubbornness I’m betting Karlsson gets moved at the end of the season if not the deadline if things don’t turn around for them by then.

That's an awful return for Guentzel. For one he's a top line scoring winger who will get at minimum a 1st if traded. You sent a D man who will get burried minutes behind Letang and Karlsson, plus another old dude of no value.

but Letang and Karlsson need guys to play with to be the safety valve when they rover and Pesce is who would fit but I can't see the Canes trading in division or conference
