<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>I don't know who these analysts you've been listening to are, but there's next to no chance PIT would be able to move Karlsson's cap hit without retaining or taking some significant salary back (and that's not even with Boat Anchor Rakell included).

Being the point man on an 0 for 40 PP isn't exactly a selling feature either. Regardless, aside from having a lot of cap space to accommodate his salary, NSH is a poor destination for Karlsson. He's not going to get the lion's share of EV or PP time with Josi there. Even if a team was convinced Karlsson could keep up his current level of play for the rest of his contract (which is a big gamble - he never has been the most consistent player), NSH needs other pieces a lot more than a $10M offensive defenseman.</div></div>

A boat anchor? Lol. Dude literally had 60 points (28 of which were goals). He’s having a bad season and played a portion of it with a nagging lower body injury. One bad season does not make him a boat anchor lol. The only reason I would include him in this deal or move him elsewhere would be for salary cap purposes cause out of the 4 top wingers he’s the least essential to us. We have Rust, and Guentzel. If it’s between smith and Rakell I’m choosing Rakell because smith has a Stanley Cup under his belt &amp; way more Playoff experience.

The 0 for 40 PP has a lot more to it than simply saying “ITS KARLSSONS FAULT” lol. If you watched any of the games there’s only two guys moving around trying to open shooting lanes and passing lanes and he’s one of them. Everyone else stands still and just waits for th puck. The pens power play as a whole has been trash. Not Karlssons specifically lol. What i was saying is despite that missed opportunity for points he still has 22 in 30 which says a lot about the offensive production he’s bringing.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IjustNEEDaTROYgamble</b></div><div>but you answered your question on why it won't be Rust and Rakell, because Guentzel is a pending ufa that Dallas does not have account in next years cap as they don't want Rakell or Rusts extra 4 or 5 years and they need Carrier to help save this season and draft picks are not going to help the Penguins win in the short window before Sid, Geno and Letang leave</div></div>

I wasn’t suggesting Rust or Rakell to Dallas to clarify. I was simply saying they are more like to move Rakell or Rust to whomever they can work a deal with to free up the space to resign Guentzel.

As for Carrier, as promising as he is and as well as he’s played thus far, they’re gonna need a lot more than him to “Win now”. In that same token if the pens are in win now mode, which they are. Moving their point per game winger for another offensive minded defensemen when they already have Karlsson &amp; Letang.

This trade just wouldn’t make sense for them in anyway unless they’re looking to sell and if that’s the case they’re going to be searching for players like Carrier…yes to fill the void temporarily if they are trying to do a quick rebuild which is unlikely given Sid, Geno, and Tangers age. That ship has sailed. So now if they go rebuild it’s gonna be a whole sale for prospects and picks.

Honestly when it comes to the pens and their stubbornness I’m betting Karlsson gets moved at the end of the season if not the deadline if things don’t turn around for them by then.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Augustus</b></div><div>I have no idea about the player, myself, but I love the rationale, if he can be a sort of Tomas Holmstrom for Pittsburgh, someone like Rakell or Rust or whoever coach chooses can play further down the lineup to spread out the talent and offence, hoping it works..

Pretty interesting swap too. Instinct says giving up the speedier player could be worse for Pittsburgh, but I think overall I'm liking where you're going with this.</div></div>

Nieto wouldn’t be my first choice (especially as a pens fan myself) but the Islanders aren’t going to hand a player they like even a bottom 6 forward like Fasching to a rival without getting something they can find value in. Having a speedy guy with a decent shot that plays aggressive could be something they could utilize.

As for Fasching he’s nothing to write home about, but he reminds me a lot of Chris Kunitz. Kunitz was never supposed to be anything more than a 4th winger until Pittsburgh implemented him into their system with Sid. He was younger at the time then Fasching is now, but Fasching has recently started to kind of find his game well enough to be a mainstay in the line up and might benefit the same way as Kunitz did in the Pens system. I don’t think he’ll hit the same level by any means but could fill a familiar role that’s been lacking

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hobo</b></div><div>Bruins aren't likely moving a 19 year old kid who earned his spot on the team (Poitras)</div></div>

I know I clarified that. Another commenter said that CAL would want Poitras instead of Lysell. I said I agree that they probably would but Boston would likely not take that trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hobo</b></div><div>So basically you are saying the the Bruins move a Vezna goalie, Ullmark, Debrusk, Lohrei, Lysell, Matty G and a 1st for Noah and Lindholm.......never in a million years would they grossly overpay for two UFA players who are unhappy with their current team.</div></div>

Ullmark was already shopped around heavily prior to the start of the season when the Bruins were seeking a #1 C to replace Bergeron. Moving him in this deal gains exactly that while putting some of the payment to CAL on EDM plate. Matty G is vastly underperforming and neither him nor Debrusk are not the same caliber players as Lindholm and Hanifin. UFA status only means something if your team has no intention of signing the player or the player has no intention of signing to the team. Lindholm and Hanifin are only at odds with their team because they’re disorganized and losing. If they land on a team that is proving to be a Stanley Cup contender like Boston they’re almost guaranteed to resign. And yes grossly overpaying for UFAs is exactly what every playoff team does to bulk up their main roster and fill gaps. Plus salary cap issues this year are making standard hockey moves impossible. So yes if they really want Hanifin and Lindholm like they’re rumored to, they’re gonna overpay
