Retention on Campbell is pointless cause we’re likely to buy him out plus we don’t have cap issues

Why is Edmonton giving up all their picks unprotected when they're currently bottom 5 in the league? This just spells disaster.

Probably because they think they can/will make playoffs after their turnaround. 5 points out of a WC spot with 2 games in hand. They're not really a true bottom 5 team.

We're 2 games out of a playoff spot, just came off of a 8 game winning streak where it should have been 9 if Skinner was even just average in that Tampa game. There's also two thirds of the year left to go.

I'd feel pretty safe about us not being in the same position by even December 31st. I'd much rather have us give up all of our picks since we can't develop a prospect to save our lives and us playing "conservative" after a rough start while having the best player in the league would be the biggest failure in league history

No point to retain on Campbell but I like it outside of that

Also keep Brown, yes he's been terrible but we have to pay his bonus anyways and he could be valuable on that 3rd line come playoff time

yeah that makes sense, just thought I'd really mess with the roster

There's been one team in the last decade that has made the playoffs with a record below .500 in December. To sell everything for the chance and hope that you can also achieve that is pretty short-sighted.

Yet they're 5 points out of a wildcard with like 3 games in hand? lmao

They're now 6 points back with 2 games in hand. The Oilers went 8-0 and are still two games below .500.

so win the games in hand and they're 2 points back? tears of joy I don't see where they're a lottery team, or out of the playoffs yet lol

Don't shoot the messenger.

You're a lottery team if you don't make the playoffs. Your team's fate is not in their hands, you have to rely on other teams to beat those ahead of you.

The Oilers have a literal mountain to climb to get back to a playoff spot. They have 27 points and the cut-off for the 8th seed is usually 95 points. That means Edmonton needs the equivalent of 34 wins for the rest of the season just to make the playoffs. Given their track record versus Mid-10 and Top-10 teams (5-7-0 and 2-6-1, respectively) and that they have 29 of their remaining games against teams in those tiers, it's likely your team goes bust instead of cup.

Effectively they are, the Oilers are on pace for 76 points and have lost 3 in a row. Even with McDavid playing his heart out it's a tough hill to climb. I'm just saying don't trade away the thing that could be the best part of your team's season.

First-round picks are the only way the Oilers have managed to get NHL players from the draft. Is Jujhar Khaira still the most recent pick after the 1st round to play more than 150 games in an Oilers sweater?

Campbell can be buried in the minors at 3.8M. Oilers retain 800K let’s say, that’s 3M dead cap for 3 years. That’s probably the better option than a buyout for the Sharks. In 3 years that cap will be freed up just in time for Sharks to start competing again.

Desharnais is 7th rd pick and is now a regular.
Mcleod was a 2nd round pick and is a good 3C.
Bear was drafted 4th or 5th round and is an NHLer that Oilers used as a trade chip.
Both Marino and Kesselring are NHL defenceman drafted by Oilers but traded cause they wouldn’t play here.

khaira was drafted in the third round? bouchard and yamamoto also have played 150+? 2nd rounder ryan mcleod has also played 150+ lol. do you think every NHL contender is built solely from first rounders?tears of joy

Did you misread my entire reply?

Yes, Khaira was chosen in the 3rd round, that was the point I was making.

Since 2013, in rounds 2-7, the Oilers have struggled to get any NHLers. Bouchard and Yamamoto are both 1st round picks, which proves my point further. Teams expect an NHLer in the first round, they definitely should get one if it's a Top-10 pick like Bouchard.

The Oilers have one player (McLeod) in the last 10 years of drafting who was chosen after the first round. That's why I'm saying don't trade your picks unprotected, especially when you're still below .500 more than 1/3rd of the way through the season.
