Highly unlikely for many reasons...first and foremost that the Caps would not go forward with such an inexperienced D corps...Bowey, Djoos, Siegenthaler, Hoobs, and Morrissey as the bottom 5 defenseman would be almost team suicide. Not to mention Nuge as a 3C is a lot to pay for a 3rd centerman. Eller is also not a grind-line style player, so he's better off traded instead of being 4C. Connor Brown would be an interesting piece to add, and possibly Matt Cullen in the "Winnik-style" role. But overall this doesn't add up to a playoff caliber team in the slightest. Thanks for the ideas though!!

Understandably this set of bottom 5 D is beyond risky, but I was trying for a different approach - to stack up offense.
Every year in the playoffs you see the cup winners win a different style and teams try to emulate the winning roster in the offseason. But maybe instead of being reactionary, to be proactive and create a new winning formula, and my idea is to just load up forwards. It may crash and burn, but Capitals are always making reactionary moves, it's time for them to be a bit more innovative.
Plus, RHN is a good insurance policy for if Ovie or Kuzy bolts to the KHL, and Kuzy can shift to the wing so RHN can be 2C.

You do realize that the Yotes aren't worried about cap but actual cash, right? Orpik is getting paid $10M in real money over the next 2 years and is clearly declining. Bolland is owed something like $500k/year and the cap hit helps them get over the cap floor without actually spending real money, which is attractive to them right now. Considering they already have OEL, Goligoski, Hammer & Chychrun as LHD, why would adding Orpik be attractive whatsoever? There would need to be one helluva sweetener for Chayka to consider that trade.

Per CapFriendly, Dave Bolland makes 5,500,000 per year, as long as he is assigned to the NHL

    edit : IRL money

    Sorry, it's $1.1M IRL money.

A league source told Arizona Sports last week that the Coyotes would put Bolland on long-term injured reserve after training camp, thereby reducing their salary commitment to him from $5.5 million to $1.1 million this season, with insurance picking up the rest.
