Not the 2024 Habs you deserve BUT the 2024 Habs you need right now

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 24, 2023
Published: Dec. 24, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Beck, Roy, Reinbacher, Mesar, Mailloux, Farrell & Kidney all put in their time and reps in Laval with a focus on becoming consistent pros at that level.

Hutson makes the team after a tryout at the end of BU's season and Guhle switches sides to make room.

Gignac, the by far and away best and most consistent Rocket player, earns an NHL shot.

Hertl comes over and the Habs leverage him to balance their top 6 and the season is considered a failure if the team doesn't make the playoffs.

So having a divergent voice from the average Habs fan on this site makes me a "Muppet"?

Youth is not everything sir, go ask the Sens, Sabres, and Ducks if you don't believe me. Veterans set the bar, not the rookies.

Which player drafted 10-20 in this draft do you expect to take part in this rebuild anyway? When will he be mature enough to help this team? How many years do we have to wait, and how many active players have to be replaced by rookies until you deem this team rebuilt enough to try?

Guy! Which player do you reasonably expect us to draft this year? It's literally 50% defensemen...

hes 30.
hes got 6 more years at a cap higher than the captain. (look at coles cap)
habs will draft a forward this year with their top 5 pick

you will continue to look at scores, and points, and be a 'pro'

ill just keep watching, and enjoying hockey.

happy holidays!

Catton, Helenius, Lindstrom, Chernysov, etc. There’s plenty of good forward who will be available at our rank. Worst case scenario, we take Kiviharju and we trade a LD

Don't like any 30-36 year old players eh? You call me out on my "feelings" but refuse to answer a single question. Please prove to me that your "common knowledge" approach to rebuilding an NHL team is better than my approach.

I have made the argument that the approach you support is not working for the Sens, the Ducks, the Sabres. Please tell me which teams it DOES work for?

Another 5'10 defender... Great.

If the draft happened tomorrow, we're drafting 11th... Best forwards are a bunch of middle-tier wingers. Those guys are not helping this team for 4 years minimum.

The 1st could be Lindstrom or Catton. I think MTL should trade that guy for a just solid 2nd liner.

It could be, but more than likely, we're drafting 10-20 and those guys are gone.

I'd add that rebuilding teams shouldn't be trading multiple assets for single players.

The average Habs fan on this site is a bipolar schizophrenic, to be fair. This site isn’t the best representation of Canadian fanbases.

There is a direct correlation between teams that develop their prospects and sustained success.

Our D will average 6’2. I think we can afford to lose 4 inches

As of now, Helenius and Chernysov, who are both insane forwards with insane offensive potential, would be available at 11

Ok. Would you say supporting your developing players with capable high impact vets is part and parcel of good player development? Or is it simply about giving the players reps to make mistakes?

Only Chernysov according to Tankathon. A Russian forward who will probably come with a 3 year deal already signed in the KHL. Essentially we're saying we cannot get a high impact vet to help us for the next 5 years because we need to draft a kid who might be good in 4-5 years.

When I watch the Habs I see a team which competes every night. They are in just about every game (only 4 games this year where they were man-handled by the other team). This is not a team that needs 4 years to start trying to make the playoffs.

Don't forget we have Beck, Roy, Reinbacher, Mesar, Mailloux, Farrell & Kidney all curing and waiting for their shot. We don't need to keep building that pipeline at such an aggressive rate. We need to help the guys on the ice to make the playoffs ASAP so that when the guys in the pipeline come up, they join a winning culture.

Chernysov is the equivalent of Michkov. Top 5 player in the draft but has a contract. Best offensive talent imo. So I would prefer having him over an old 2c. We don’t have any offensive talent besides Caufield and Slaf, who aren’t top tier either

I have to argue in favor of the SJS trade if I was a Montreal fan! Hertl is a very good leader a very good 200’ top 6 C and would be a huge stabilizing voice and player for years to come!
As a sharks fan I would decline! LD is not a need for us so Harris isn’t very valuable for us. The 1st is but this draft isn’t very deep and a mid 1st does not help us like Hertl does.

Personally I feel Hertl needs to be a shark and help us through the rebuild! He’s good for ticket sales and a good leader for the next group and this team needs that!
And the only way I trade him is if he wants out, and if he comes out and says he wants out sharks return shrinks exponentially and this may be the best offer we get.
But if I had to venture an offer that would be enticing it would have to include a 2 way offensive minded RD prospect and that 1st.
