This is a good example of failing to take into consideration the needs of the other team. Why would the Yotes do that trade? It certainly doesn't benefit them. They WANT Bolland's contract, because it helps them get over the cap floor. GM John Chayka has publicly said that Duclair is still a part of the young core. They think Tocchet (and putting Duclair back with a healthy Domi) will help Duclair rediscover his scoring touch. Duclair's contract will be cheap, because he had a sophomore slump, which is attractive to the Yotes. The Yotes have OEL, Goligoski, Chychrun and Hammer as left handed D-men. Their entire roster, including the AHL roster in Tucson, is basically filled at this point.
So why would they make that trade? What's the benefit for the Yotes? What do they get out of it?
Orpik played less than 18 minutes in the regular season and less that 16 minutes in the playoffs. He'll make $10M over the last two seasons of that contract. That has negative value, at least to the Yotes D corps.
Considering the Yotes already have 5 young goalies under contract, why would Vanecek be of interest?
Lewington was in the ECHL the season before last. Graovac is a tweener who will be lucky to hold down an NHL job.
A 2nd round pick doesn't come close to making up the value. Try to think about the other team's needs.
