Could TOR sign McDavid read desc

Description
This roster is only to get a rough idea of what the salary cap structure would look like if the leafs ever got super lucky and were able to convince McDavid to come home. (Not here to debate wether he stays in Edmonton or not, he probably re signs there) The cap should rise huge in 2026 with the TV rights deals coming up, it could go up as much as 15 million in 1 off season if the NHL keeps its revenue on pace for the 2026 tv deals. (Personally I’d like to see a luxury tax system brought in when the CBA is renegotiated in a few years, 2028 I believe??)

I don't think it's entirely out of the question, but still a long shot. It really depends on how much success EDM will have over the next couple of years. Realistically the Oilers will offer him a massive 8-year deal a year before he hits UFA.

doubt a luxury ta ever happens in the nhl. If the cap jump lets say 110 as you have it, mcdavid salary will be closer to 20 millions lol.

The answer is yes, but the Leafs would have to plan his cap ahead, which might mean not having Nylander, Marner or both
Just to add, McDavid will have finished 11 pro seasons when his current contract ends.

You don't get rid of Marner or Nylander "in case" McDavid hits the open market 2 years from now.

Make moves after the fact. You plan for it by making sure you don't have any bad contracts taking up the needed cap space. Personally I have little faith in Treliving doing that. I bet he signs some brand name 29 year old to major cap and term before then and makes it almost impossible to sign McDavid.

29 year old??? I'm afraid he's going to sign the even older Lindholm and Tanev cause they were his boys in Calgary, and we know how successful Trevling was in his Flames tenure.

Why has the very rich owners of the Leafs....between Bell, Rodgers, and previously TD and the Teachers Pension Plan, hire such horrible GMs?
