if Montreal honestly wanted an offensive prospect they would've taken Benson or Leonard or even gambled on Michkov. Not saying I'm 100% happy with the pick, but I vibe with the formula of;

Defense+Goaltending takes longer so build that first
Then draft offensive talent.

If offense only doesn't work(Edm, Tml) then I'd be happier sticking around for proper building.

So this is a hard no from Montreal

I agree, kinda why I was trying. Sabres have a ton of Good Forward prospects, we need that TOP 4 RD, and Reinbacher definitely has that potential and more.

I actually believe the Habs think he has top pairing potential similar to a Hedman type guy in their eyes. Their cupboard of high end RD isn't great either. If they're selling defense, I've gotta think it's left handed guys. A surprising amount of talent there. Love and hate what Bergevin did there lmao.

I also weirdly strongly think Kent Hughes likes the"sell players for picks then flip those picks for prospects/projects" model. Ie; Dach, Newhook

2 projects in 2 years might just be a trend...

I don't agree there, RD with Top pairing potential don't grow on Trees. I think it's close, basically added the 3rd to entice a bit more. Doubt Montreal would even do this.

Reinbacher is years away, he's projected to be top pair, but could easily drop off. If he was like a year out, then I'd consider that, but they have Strbak on the same time line as a 2nd pair guy, and with Dahlin Samuelsson Power and Johnson I think top pair RD will be Dahlin anyway

I put Reinbacher on the same timeline as Savoie because where does Savoie fit. And a Dcore withe the possibilities of
Dahlin Reinbacher
Power Strbak
Johnson Samuelsson in a Couple years is very enticing. Actually probably trade Samuelsson for some other help cause Novikov should be ready to. Sabres have a lot of lost hockey players right know, there gonna have to change some things and even next year could be lost if Adams doesn't start acting on it.

I think Harris to Buffalo makes a lot of sense. He us a great player withmiddle pairing potential, but he is stuck in the logjam here in Montreal. It wouldn’t cost something crazy, maybe Harris and a pick for someone like Rosen

They haven't even really had a chance to draft a good RHD. Looking at the last 5 years, they really haven't had a good chance to get one in the first round or shortly after. You don't take Clarke over Power. Only one is maybe Lamoureux but they got Kulich there. Hard to comment on the latter rounds since that is more of a crap shoot.

They passed on Luneau, Warren, Casey, a couple years back in the 2nd and took a G unfortunately.

Yeah that's the worst one I saw. Especially bad when I looked at that goalies stats and nothing really all that impressive.

To be frank it was shocking when the Sabres passed on Tristan Luneau.
Why draft a GK with the 41st OA when at the time they had Luukkonen (who played very well tonight) Levi and Portillo.
He appeared to be the logical choice as they did (and still do not) have any RHD prospects.
On the other hand, 11 other teams passed on Luneau before the Ducks struck gold.
He is already in the NHL and maybe they decide to pass on both Erik Johnson and Clifford to keep Lyubushkin and Luneau.

@BUFF36 the season is still young it is too early to give up.
TOO many players have digressed over last year.
Peterka and Mittelstadt have taken a step forward, Skinner is about on the same trajectory, but nearly every one else has regressed.
They have played well the last four games (yes even against Boston except the PK).

I liked both Warren and Luneau in their draft year. I was disappointed Detroit passed on both of them at #40. I didn't like the Dylan James pick, still don't. Funny how Anaheim got both of those players. The fact that half the teams in the league are hurting for RHD yet pass on so many with these mid picks I find is a bit mind numbing. I would love to see what goes on in those draft rooms, at what they are discussing.

Like the Hope Ghost, but it will take a New Years Miracle for them to make the playoffs. And even if they sniff it they aren't built right to do anything with it. They have some really nice pieces, but there missing some pieces that could make the difference. And the Coaching is Horrible. Adams missed his signal again.

Too many people have anointed KA as the Savior.
But look at the top players:
Tage, Casey, Rasmus, Dylan, Jeff, Samuelsson, Jokiharju, Tuch, Peterka, Quinn, Owen four years after Botteril was fired, 7 of the top players are Jason acquisitions.
Include top prospects for this year, Ryan Johanson and Zack Benson Jason is still adding to the team.
