The Sabres just aren't complete without a Zemgus!

I think something like this could very well make sense depending on what mittlestadt would want for an extension. Not a good defensive forward but stick him between Lehky and nuke and that won’t matter as much. He could probably get more money from other teams. 6.5 by 8 would be my sweet spot

I don't see this as likely because the Avs need to make a move in season so by this point the time for the trade would have passed. IF they haven't managed to do something in season then it's a maybe that could be revisited.

Idk if they'd want to give up Manson going into the playoffs

Exactly. I don't see Buffalo and Colorado as logical trade partners. Avs need to make a trade now and would want to keep Manson for the playoffs. So this wouldn't work in season for either team. If the Avs have found their 2C in season then the trade wouldn't happen anyway (or at least not for Mitts, Manson could obviously still be available). The only way it's a maybe is if the Avs don't make a 2C move in season, and if they don't then they can kiss any real shot at the cup goodbye imo.

What if they added Clifton. Major upgrade upfront for slight downgrade in the back

Doesn't really work for the Avs cap-wise with the extra year of Clifton at that cap hit (I like Clifton, but did whistle when I saw what Buffalo had signed him for). When they come to start off-loading the likes of Manson and/or Girard (maybe even and/or Byram or one of Colton/Lehkonen) they'll really need to be trading for futures or prospects or very, very decently priced players. Obviously a lot would depend on other moves but in a vacuum, I can't see it working.

Honestly we could add lindholm as a rental then add another long term option in the offseason. Would be a lot of assets but for a 2C it’s worth it. Mittelstadt is one of the options that would make a load of sense as he’s young and would be good for a full 8 year deal

Probably get him cheaper if your giving him 8 years too

Yeah it would still be risky giving an 8 year deal for a guy who would not have played a game for us but the aav being as low as possible is big for the avalanche

Be moving a LOT of assets in total doing that. That's just plain bad asset management and should get a GM fired 'toute de suite' and the tooter the sweeter! As I've stated...IF.....the Avs fail to adress the 2C role this season (and imo that's no cup for sure) then that trade would be worth re-visiting in the off season, but I expect the Avs to do something sooner rather than later.

I just don’t personally see how lindholm specifically will be a long term answer at the position for us. Hes gonna be 30 before his next contract and it will be expensive. Hes the only 2C rn that seems available and the likelihood of us keeping him is minimal without major changes to the roster even though this year we’d be amazing. Mittelstadt would be cheaper and long term solution. I think there could for sure be a deal in season for him that can be made

Yet that's not what you just argued. I've already said, 'maybe' if there is no deal in season it's an idea worth re-visiting in the off season. In season the Avs and Sabres simply aren't a good match.
