I don't think a 2026 3rd is enough for th Sharks to take on that much salary next year. Not that it matters either way, but Chemelevski is playing in the NHL now

Perfectly illustrates the lack of foresight that would get you fired as a GM. Now how do you sign Rants, Georgie, LOC, Malinski, Byram & Kovalenko the following year? Bleed some more assets?

I would argue we need a short term cap hit next year to get to the cap floor and picking up a decent player and a 3rd just to get to the cap floor isn’t a horrible idea honestly.

Caps going up again, Rantanen can be moved, Georgiev can walk, Malinski is a dime a dozen, Kovalenko is a huge ?, O'Connor is a 4th liner, and Colorado still has some elc potential NHLers. Either win now or be mediocre for the next couple of years until them team ages out. Idk where you'll get a better 2C for 6 mill per aside the draft, which Colorado would have to be lucky picking 20+

Avs would be devastated if Rants walks; they need him to get re-signed this offseason. Also, Mittlestadt isn't a clear 2C; he's never even scored 60 points and isn't known as a strong defensive player.

And for a guy the sharks could possibly trade for another mid rounder at the deadline. If Smith returns to NCAA and sharks don’t get Celebrini there could be a hole at C, might as well fill and get a couple picks for free right?

He's improved his d zone play and had 59 points last season and on pace for 65-70 now. Not to mention top 5 5v5 points over the last calendar year

Thinking that moving Rantanen is a legitimate idea for this is not serious stuff. You don’t just “move” 50 goal scorers. You cannot just gun for one year in hockey, you have to build a core that gives you multiple chances.

That being said….I would love middlestadt.
