HanifinSwayman Offszn

Created by: BruinsWoahWoah
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 1, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Two big ticket items in the offseason - locking up Sway long-term and bringing Hanifin on a hometown discount. Defense and goaltending would be absolutely dominant. Offense would be predicated on Lysell, Merkulov, and Poitras taking the next steps in their development. Lysell/Debrusk battle for 2RW - I gave Debrusk the edge to spread the young guys throughout the line-up, but Lysell might be able to be a bit more dynamic next to Poitras and Marchand. Bring back Heinen/Mitchell for depth.

You cannot get Hanafin for the 8th year unless you do a sign-and-trade with Calgary, no? I think you can only get him for 7, and I think the AAV will be higher. You'd probably need a cheaper option than a 2.75m Hakanpaa if you sign Hanafin.

You're right 7 years max for Hanifin... I was basing his AAV off the rumor that Hanifin wants to play in Boston, he will get more on the open market but I was presuming he would take a $1M per year discount to come back home. Bruins don't need Hanifin as Lohrei should be ready for top-4 minutes next year, but he would put them over the top on defense and lighten load on all the D.

EDIT: Updated to 7 year deal for Hanifin.

I think it’s the right contract number. Throw a mid pick at Calgary to get the 8th year of needed.

Wonder what the price on him would be if the rumor is true that he is going to sign with BOS in the offseason. I can't imagine he would return much if he is a rental and his agent tells teams acquiring him that he won't sign an extension.

Lohrei's play over the last week-ish has kinda made me question whether we really need Hanifin this summer. But I wouldn't hate it if it happened.

Lohrei has really stepped up and looked a lot more consistent on defense... I have been especially impressed by his puck handling in tight spaces and instincts of when to pinch into the offensive zone as an outlet.

We probably don't NEED Hanifin but if he's willing to sign for $6.5M in his prime, he would be a great addition and lighten the load on Lindholm/McAvoy/Carlo/Lohrei

Completely agree, there isnt an immediate NEED for Hanafin, but we know he wants to play in BOS and he would bolster the back end. Of course the issue comes with blocking Lohrei's top 4 minutes, but would not be upset at all with signing Hanafin

Would be surprised if Hakanpaa and Heinen cost that much, rather use that money on another solid forward

and most importantly: no need for Mitchell
