What does a Guentzel trade look like

Created by: mv21227
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2024
Published: Jan. 3, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Guentzel, Jake ($3,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Retention would be ideal for the Canucks, but they could probably make it work without retention
PIT
  1. 2024 1st round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
A 1st round pick will definitely be included
2.
VAN
I imagine one of these guys would be included. Any prospect not named Lekkerimaki or Willander is probably on the table
    3.
    VAN
Kuzmenko could also potentially be included, maybe instead of the young piece if Pittsburgh prefers to try and stay competitive this season
      4.
      VAN
One or two other lower prospects/picks could be included as well, to help pay for retention/push the value over the line
        PIT
        1. Karlsson, Linus
        2. Klimovich, Danila
        3. McDonough, Aidan
        4. 2024 3rd round pick (VAN)
        5. 2025 2nd round pick (VAN)

        Probably Kuzmenko, 2024 1st, Brzustewicz

Rather have someone like Vatrano, Duclair, etc without having to sell the farm

TBH these trades look bizarre on paper.
This Jake Guentzel trade rumour is going crazy and it drives me nuts Very Angry !!!
Jake Guentzel is doing well for the Penguins and he didn't ask for a trade.
Kuzmenko didn't ask for a trade, he's trying his best to help his team win hockey games and doesn't want to go anywhere.
Plus trading Canuck's prospect players and a first-round pick is a big waste.
Why can't a team that's contending for a Stanley Cup can acquire Jake Guentzel?

The Canucks are contending this year. Adding a bonafide top 6 winger like Guentzel would go a long way in helping them this year. Not sure if it’s a move I’d do personally, but I can definitely see it happening

I'm just hoping they can get Guentzel without trading a forward like Kuzmenko.
If Vancouver trades Myers/Garland for Guentzel it kind of makes sense just because the value is identical, but I don't know if it will happen.
        We'll have to find out.

I don't understand your defense of Kuzmenko, he clearly isn't fitting into coach RT's plans. If that's the case, leverage him to get someone that does.

RE: the author's note about not including Lekkerimaki, I'd rather trade him than Brzuskewicz.

TBH he didn't ask for a trade and the same for Guentzel.
I mean let's find out and see what Dubas is going to do with Guentzel.

Call me cheap but I'd max offer Kuz, a 2nd and B prospect. Pens are strapped and having to offer Guentzel 8M isn't viable for either team. Canucks are about to leave cap hell, don't need to go back. If Canucks want the rental, that's fine but no way would I include a top prospect or a first if Kuz is in the deal. Kuz having a 2nd year just slightly below Guentzel's current cap hit is a major plus.

Guentzel came in the league in 2016-2017. He is 19th in goals scored since the start of that season and 6th in playoff goals in that time. Kuzmenko isn't even remotely close to value even with a 1st, despite him being a rental.

Garland despite a lack of goals has been one of our best forwards and a crucial part to our bottom 6. Myers is one of our 2 NHL RHDs and is trusted by the coaching staff, so even if he’s overpaid he won’t be moved without a RHD coming back. Kuzmenko hasn’t been a fit in Tocchet’s system, and Rutherfords comments make it seem like he could definitely be moved

I would be surprised if Dubas declines the trade rumours of Guentzel.
        Let's see what he'll say on Feb/March.

He wont move him. He's the best winger Crosby has ever had and Dubas still wants to win, so Jake being on the market right now is just media spec.

Myer’s AAV is $6M and Guentzel’s AAV is the same.
