This is a hard 'no' for me.

Niemela has looked really good so far this year. Not trying to say he's a hot prospect...but he's not a guy I'm just throwing into a trade. I personally think a 1st alone for Tanev is too much. I really like the guy...but I don't think him alone makes us a cup favourite...and therefore I'm not giving up much to get him for a couple months.

If the first was conditional...on either him re-signing..or the leafs making it to the 3rd round...something like that....then maybe. Otherwise I'm fine if another team wants to ante up that kind of package and then try and see if we can get him for a couple years as a UFA this summer

Niemela doesn't have any value? He was named the top defenceman at the world Juniors. Go look at the list of former winners and tell me he has no value. Niemela is going to be a good defenceman. He's doing very well in the AHL already. Needs to keep getting stronger but he'll be a good player very soon.

Also this is a major overpay for a soon to be 34 year old rental. This isn't 29 year old Tanev.
