What would be the market for selling Dougie

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2024-25 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 5, 2024
Published: Jan. 5, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don’t want to sell him, but would have to be considered for a few reasons….

1. Nemec has played well beyond expectations and unlikely he is ever sent down again.
2. We have Marino locked up.
3. Dougie history…3 years in Boston, 3 years in Calgary, 3 years in Carolina, 3 years in New Jersey…(for fans of symmetry)
4. Big cap hit
5. Luke already replaced Dougie on PP1 before the injury.
6. It makes for good outside-the-box ACGM (the real reason)

Where would he go?

- Probably outside the division
- Team with cap space
- Team on bubble
- Team that needs top-4 RHD
- Team with need for offensive dman
- Team he would waive NTC to

Rough guess….
Arizona
Buffalo
Calgary (again)
Florida (if Forsling and/or Montour move on)
Minnesota
Nashville
St Louis
Winnipeg

How much would get?

Some comps to consider
- Subban: Two 2nds and lesser pieces.
- Karlsson: Five overpaid guys and 1st
- Jones: two 1sts, 2nd
- Weber: Subban

I don’t think NJD would have much interest in picks only transaction. So would probably look for something like a lesser defensive dman plus a forward or goalie.

----

Again, I don’t think we move him. But am curious what the Dougie market would look like.

Trouba is +9, Hamilton is -8. Trouba has double the points excluding PP, which is is not on, and he actually plays defense unlike Hamilton. Plus he isn't a locker room cancer who has never lasted longer than three years on a team. Plus he is an actual leader. Hamilton wishes he was Trouba.

Glad to hear you think Igor Shesterkin and Quick are equivalent in play to vitek vanacek

Hamilton wasn't even good at defense when he was on the canes who had one of the best defensive systems in the league. One of the many reasons they didn't re-sign him

And yet trouba has given up more shots, goals, and expected goals than Hamilton 5v5 over the past 2 years.

Has he tried playing better?

Since you're using other players in this conversation, why don't you look at how Dougie has played with a great DFD in Siegs that lets him focus on his offense, while Trouba has played with a young D in Miller who Trouba constantly has to recover for Miller's mistakes. I'm done arguing with someone who has no idea what they are talking about

Trouba has been below 50% xgoals share for 6 consecutive years and counting. Has he considered playing better?
