I think his agent said he wont sign less than 6 years. He also said he wants a clear picture off the team short and long term..

Based on what his agent said it sounded likely that he could be traded at the deadline.

I agree and I think it needs to happen. Taking him from sid hurts, but losing him for nothing really sets the team back years

Yeah I think if we pass up on this trade then we will have nothing to kick start a rebuild when it's time. And I think we will probably lose him at the end of the season either way because why would he want to sign a long term deal with a team that wants to rebuild soon.

Few thoughts.

1. If Ned keeps having the season he is someone will give him a better deal.
2. i'd rather sign jake to something like 8x$6.5M i think most teams will go for a 6x$8-$9M aav. So give him two more years of term to make up for less AAV. IMO if they sign him anywhere between $8-9M aav then the team won't do much because that will eat into nearly half their cap.
3. No on henrique, i'd take him this season as a rental but they can't try and compete again next year with a Center depth of all 30 year olds.

Dubas isn’t going to let Guentzel go with the window on the team closing. Sign him to a 8 year deal for a little less than the 7 year would cost because years 4-8 really don’t matter too much. Pay a lot of the salary in years 1-4 and maybe make the years 5-8 easier to move when he decides he wants to try to win before he retires.

Dubas will end up moving Smith or rust for cheaper than he should to create space for Guentzel and get some depth pieces.
