If the Caps don’t make the playoffs. A small retool may be in order. Some further in development highly drafted former 1st rounders could help extend the Ovie era.
Oilers send former 1st rounders Broberg and Bourgault. Broberg is playing great with big minutes in the AHL, former 8th overall pick with elite skating and size, and should be able to step in immediately for Edmundson when he retires. Skilled Russian prospect Matvei Petrov is also included and Ovie may be able to take him to the next level. With Oshie close to retirement, Bourgault and/or Petrov may be able to eventually fill in for that loss. A 2024 1st is also included so Caps can bolster their prospects pipeline with a high end prospect. Pickard and Ceci are included to help balance the dollars. Ceci can be flipped in the off-season for more futures or can provide reliable Top 4 minutes if Bear or TVR falter. Pickard can backup Kuemper on the cheap. Caps free up cap space overall for further improvements down the road.


Caps have a logjam at RD with Bear signed recently. Oilers have a need at RD and Backup Goalie. Jensen and his 4M cap goes, so the cheaper Bear and TVR can get ice time. Lindgren comes in to back up Skinner.
