Dealing with Colorado idea not final offer

Created by: gegemoroo
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 10, 2024
Published: Jan. 10, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Since Colorado are clearly competing and need to take advantage of the golden year of MacKinnon/Makar, they need a clear 2C.

To be clear NOT BOTH, it's one or another.

I have couple of scenarios in mind, don't know if the cap works but we will try it.

Hertl for Byram +
Col will have Makar, Toews, Girard and Manson as top 4 (still one of the best)
Hertl is going automatically lock that 2C position and will be one of the best in the league.
Couture for Girard +
Col will have Makar, Toews, Byram and Manson as top 4 (still one of the best)
Couture is a playoff monster and he always plays very good for 2C if he has a good team around him.

Sharks need good defencemen and quickly. We have a decent forwards prospects, but defence is totally atrocious.

Please inform me if this is way off..

Bruh 😬

You don't seriously believe the Avs are trading Byram do you?

Your second trade is more realistic. But both sides probably say no.

Imo the Avs would have interest in both (either) player but (1) as a pure add and (2) not at their current salaries. The AAV would need to come down to 6M max, which probably kills any deal for SJ.

Second trade is not realistic. Avs aren’t paying Couture $8M until he’s 38.

I said both sides probably say no. Guess you missed it. Swing and a miss by you. 🙄

I’m disagreeing with the first part of your statement. The Byram/Hertl trade, while still bad, is more realistic than trading assets for that awful Couture contract. Sharks saying no to that trade would be moronic.

Swing and a miss by you.

Hertl is very intruiging. COL could afford realistically him next season without any other major moves, if Landy is still out BUT, as the years move along, other guys would have to be traded to keep cap compliant.
