You only trade all of those assets for long term pieces. In this scenario, Colorado doesn't have the ability to extend these guys. They can extend Lindholm in certain scenarios though.

I'm thinking Byram helps us get lindholm, and Ritchie and the picks gets us hanifin. Byrams Rfa status also allows Calgary team control.

I think this current deal would definitely be accepted by Calgary. I agree that Hanifin does not make sense for them unless they are moving Girard out too (but Hanifin would cost more to re-sign so I don't think that's smart)

I do want to clarify, you called Byram a RD. He is not, he's left handed and plays almost strictly LD. Girard is the one who slides over to the right side. Also Johansson is shooting at 19.3% which is way above his average. He's scored 20+ 3 times in his career with 2 of those times being 9 and 10 years ago. The other was 2 years ago where he was again shooting at an unsustainable rate of 22%.

I think with Byram being constantly blocked in the depth chart as well as his contract ending the same year as Rantanen and Colorado's high need for a top 6 center there is probably a legitimate chance he could be made available for Lindholm. That obviously depends on Landeskog's health too as Lindholm's extension won't be cheap but him returning next year would cause them cap problems even if they did nothing
