Description
I think it would require a kinda huge overpay for Montreal to trade Monahan. He would fit perfectly as our 3C behind Suzuki/Dach (that was the plan this year). He is a great vet, fans like him and he seems to like Montreal too, he would probably be happy to sign a 3m / 2-3 years deal.

We should still trade him. We have Beck coming in the next 1-2 years and Dvo will be our third line center next year (where he hopefully plays good enough to trade him)

The way I see it, I doubt Monahan is getting a first. Which might mean Montreal keeps him and overpays on his next contract to be a 3C.

Pick or choose. Take a possible 2nd+ and resign him in the offseason if you really want

Monahan signed for 2-3 years is the perfect stop gap before Beck is NHL ready.
Dvorak is injury prone, he's proven we cannot rely on him to play all season long. Habs need center depht so they don't have to play AHLers (Stephens)
I think Dvorak will be managed the same way as Armia. Dvo don't have much value, we won't be able to trade him for something interresting and he's not good enough to secure a top 9 spot over a young player (Ylonen - RHP - Evans). Monahan does. I'd like Dvo to be 13th - 14th forward, and I wouldn't complain to have him to waivers at some point.

Monahan will definitely fetch a 1st rounder at the deadline. GM get stupid and overpay for players every year. On a contending team, would be a very good 3rd liner.

What is the point in retaining on Allen for a 4th round pick?

Not trading Monahan would be a failure, take a 2nd round pick and try to bring him back next year as a UFA if you want (or target another UFA).

I don't think they'd trade Harris for a 4C. Just keep him as 7th D he is reliable depth and can play both sides.

GM's overpay for players with intangibles. Usually vets and or physical players. Monahan is a PP merchant with terrible defensive analytics and a bad injury history.
Nobody should pay a first for him
