yea I'm over the disappointment of this season and say its growing pains/change of a lot of things in the org. Keep the core aside from chabot to open up cap and room for rhd in FA and acquire Berube or Pat Roy in the off season. Guys are young and theres still time for them to get better as a group, with the addition of some vets. I like this.

The issue with trading Batherson is his contract. As the player what you’re offering is more than fair. But how much is he acc worth for being only signed for under 5 mill for 4 more years and able to give up 65-75pts

Look at my lineup and that’s the right amount of vets we need

I hope they do a retool or similar to what St Louis/Detroit are doing.

You can still have a big draft and then add vets to keep the team competitive till the prospects develop. Would love a draft where we can add the equivalent of:

Dvorsky, Stenberg, Lindstein

Or

Danielson, ASP, Augustine , Gibson, Cleveland

A big draft like that can help us rebuild our prospect pool

I think Dickinson is playing his way into like a 4-5 years 3.5-4 mill deal 😂. That’s too much for me. Love the player tho

Not to be a di** but Chabot has been in the NHL for 7 years and isn't even at 400 games played? That contract is not looking like a bargain for the Sens. He is getting 10 million for the next 3 years and struggles to play over 60 games a year. Caps would not be smart to pay a potential top 10 pick in June for this guy. For a 'horse' yeah. But this guy ain't a horse.

This is not a good time for the Caps in their timeline to do something like this. They need to (like Ottawa all these years) stack high prospects because they will be picking in the higher parts of the draft for the next few years. Maybe a younger team that is a piece or two away. Caps are not that team anymore.

I 1000000% agree with this. And that’s what I thought the Pens should do as well

But I think both those teams are thing to squeeze of what they have left of the older guys

That’s probably a fair deal for Chabot. But if they are trading a 1st it should be for a forward like Batherson. Chabot is making way too much money for way too long with his injury history. If they did target another D I’d rather it be chycrun. They were supposedly in on him before ARI traded him

The Caps are going to try and compete for a cup until Ovi retires. Whether that is a foolish or not (it probably is) they have remained competitive this season. If they are able to retool on the fly with some younger pieces they could make a run

Just like with Backstrom (and you are starting to see it with Oshie), his own ineffective play and the realization that the Caps are in the mushy middle now, might change the perception in the next year or two though.

Agreed their center depth sucks now. And Kuzy is the main problem. The only way they get rid of him is by taking on another bad contract. At least with Hertl they will get a solid 1C that could help ovi get past Gretzky. Once he retires they will be awful anyways so one bad contract isn’t the worse thing especially with the cap going up
