NYR plunders the Oilers! Draisatl Offer Sheet

Created by: Dizz30
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2017
Published: Jul. 8, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I was curious to see if this worked on paper. Rangers can indeed fit Draisatl (and Zibenajad) if they send Marc Staal to play with his brother in Carolina.

Carolina has the space to fit M Staal's contract (in exchange for Gropp and a pick) since they're rebuilding. Also, Staal could mentor their (extremely) young D-corps.

Oilers would match an 8 mill offer and Carolina is the last team that would take on Staal...they are loaded on D already. The assets to take his contract would probably need to be substantial and an offer for Draisaital would need to be similar to the McDavid contract for the oil to walk away...

Carolina has a lot of cap space that they're not using. Trading for Staal allows them to acquire more young assets (which is why there are rumors that they'll take Hossa's contract -- same principle except Hossa would go to LTIR unlike M Staal). They have so many young players that they won't need all their cap space for several years.

EDM's cap situation looks hairy to me. Yeah, they'd probably match. NYR could go $1 million higher on Draisatl ($9m) and still make it fit.

Yes. I keep saying we should offer sheet Draisaitl! I'm all for moving Holden and Staal, although I'd also look at the possibility of moving Nash if nobody will take Staal! If we do trade Nash we can have Kreider-Draisaitl-Zuc on the top line as Draisaitl and Zuc played together in the World Cup just gone!

I really like this but, three first round picks is like a shot to the heart for our future. Two at most and Graves is something more realistic.
