Cirelli to the Jets v2

Created by: mynameisliang_
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2024
Published: Jan. 17, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
the cap works with the Jets TDL space.
Trades
WPG
  1. Cirelli, Anthony ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
It seems like the last time I posted this, most of the objections were centered around the retention, not necessarily the concept of the trade, so I'm just going to try this again and see what happens.
TBL
  1. Gustafsson, David
  2. Heinola, Ville
  3. Lucius, Chaz
  4. Stanley, Logan
  5. 2024 1st round pick (WPG)
  6. 2025 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
for the purposes of this trade - gustafsson and stanley are throw-ins. They're reclamation projects that are cheap depth that Tampa can slot in next year for a million each and they're both young enough that they can maybe still become something more than what they are. Winnipeg just needs to included them to make the cap work this year.

The main focus of this trade is that even with the retention, Tampa clears $5.25M in cap space for the next seven years, and they return two former first round picks who are both cost controlled for the forseeable future in Lucius and Heinola. Tampa gets younger at C and D, and they shed salary both next year and for the subsequent 6 seasons.

I just cant see an organization trading someone on the first year of their 8 year deal, to be honest I don't even remember that last time that happend. The jets would most likely have to wait a few years for cirelli to become available

I would jump for joy if we got Cirelli.

I think if they trade him there will be 0 retention tho. No GM has ever or will ever retain any amount of a contract for 8 years.

Also seems like too much to me, essentially 3 firsts, a second, and 2 young NHLers. Maybe take out the picks or Chaz

Iafallo or Vladdy could be used to make the cap work. Both are very Tampa guys

Aside from the retention. Cirelli just doesn't score enough to be a good 2C. He's a 3C and the Jets don't need one and that's too much to give up in the hopes he can be a 2C.

Look at his linemates. Put him with Connor and Perfetti and I think he's exactly what the Jets need.

Yes, I know everyone likes to make excuses for players not producing, but at 26 he is what he is and that is an okay 3C with a big contract. That's way to big a gamble to take when your overpaying so heavily with assets.

It's but that Cirelli his a bad player, I like him, but he's not a 2C.

He also wouldn't be playing with Connor as Connor is a 1W.
