Marner

Created by: sobrien6187

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 19, 2024

Description
Feeling out Marner value with TML fans. Flyers are a wagon and TML is crumbling at the worst time. Nylander is re-signed and Marner is going to be looking for more than TML can afford, and the 4 pillars and a pile of crap roster plan hasn't worked yet.

This alleviates TMLs Cap situation (and some additional moves to help the Flyers new Cap issues) and provides them some young, affordable skill to work with, and high picks to rebuild their barren asset pool.

Marner in a down year is a top 10 winger in the league.
You're not even close to offering a package that would align with Toronto's goals

So what more would it take?

Its not even really a value issue (although your pick add-ons are insulting tbf). Its a fit issue.
The Leafs are trying to win right now and in the next 4 years. Very little in this package helps us do that - and certainly not to Marner's level

A Marner Deal starts with TK and goes up from there significantly.
Frankly I don't think Philly has the needed assets

Complete overpay for the Flyers. How a Flyers fan came up with this trade is mind boggling. Yes hes a top winger, but right there hes a winger not a center or a dman. Keep all of those assets and the Flyers are better off. Besides the fact that Marner is a NO SHOW in the playoffs on a deal that expires next year.

Marner would probably be TK + Hart as the return package

This trade makes no sense for the flyers, you can argue all you want about if that’s enough for marner, that’s not the problem

Problem is trading 3 roster players and a significant amount of draft capital for 1 player, this doesn’t push the flyers over the edge, it probably makes them worse, especially by trading York, while they are doing very good, a. They are still rebuilding and are not trading futures and b. A lot of that is because of the players in this deal
