Where I Think Were Headed

Created by: Jded
Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2024

Description
*Lines are more indicative of the long term

Draft Levshunov:
Assuming we don’t land #1OA, I like Levshunov for ANA. I have more optimism in us finding a top 6 winger in FA, trade, or later draft pick. #1RD prospects are just so hard to come by. A top pair of Mintyukov and Levshunov could be nasty long term

Sign or trade for a top 6 forward:
Pipe dream would be Killorn recruiting Stamkos, but RW would probably be the better fit

Re-sign Carrick as 4C:
Love this dude and his work ethic. Let the kids see that a guy who plays with this much heart sticks around

Re-sign Lundestrom to a 1 year prove it deal at 3C/LW:
Give him another year off the big injury to show what he can contribute. I think he tops out on the 3rd line, but could be very solid there.

Re-sign Leason as 4RW:
He’s shown a lot of growth this year. More consistency would be great, but hell he’s a 4RW

Prospects not shown that I have optimism for:
Sidorov: Awesome D+1 season so far, potential middle 6 winger in 2-3 years
Dionicio: Impressed from what I saw at WJC
Warren: I can see him as a big defensive partner for Zellweger after a few more years of development
Hinds: Like the defense-first style of play at LD. Needs to fill out his 6’3 frame and somehow climb a very deep LD pipeline though
Pitre: love his style of play, but would like to see a bigger bump in production year-on-year
Terrance: admittedly haven’t seen him play this year, but liked his WJC last year and production this season

Players with value that we trade later

      Vatrano (next TDL):
He’ll net a good return that’ll likely benefit us more than re-signing him to what he’ll ask for on a new contract

      Fowler (Next off-season?):
He can log 1LD minutes but performs like a 2LD. Our pipeline is just too deep at LD. Minty is a lock, Lacombe looks decent, Zellweger will need a spot. If Lacombe keeps progressing, then it may be Fowler who has to give when Zel is NHL ready.

Gibson (TDL earliest, more likely this or next offseason):
Dostal looks good and Gibby’s at an age where he should be competing for cups now. He’ll be declining when we’re competing, and with his injury history, I don’t foresee him being durable well into his 30s

jakob silfverberg traded this deadline at 50% perhaps? interest might not be high but could you could get something before he walks?

how would you feel about that? and if he picks him with players like Helenius Catton Demidov Parekh Eiserman still on the board. MBN is considerably older than the other guys and his stats aren’t that crazy. if Hughes takes him ahead of such players, montreal fans aren’t going to be too happy. ( still remember the boos outside bell center after the reinbacher pick I feel like it would be kind of similar) even though we’re all super happy with the Reinbacher pick now.

I would love it -- I think we will be somewhere like pick 6-9 or so when all is said and done so id imagine most of those names will be off the board, even by number 5 honestly

I don't think he gets us anything

we’re going to see. but between picks 5 and 10, players like Helenius Catton Parekh Buium Silayev could still be available. My top 5 is : ( not in order )

He's only months older than the other guys, and his draft profile reads like a love letter to Verbeek. High compete, high motor, knows where to be and when to be there. He may not be on the counting stats, but he does a lot to enable his team mates to score.

Who do you expect to be falling below the Ducks to get us in the 6-9 range? Feels like the absolute best finish for ANA would be 5th to last, which is still 86% chance at a top 6 pick.

Even then, it feels unlikely we surpass CBJ or Ottawa. Kinda seems like we’re sitting in the most likely spot for end of season at 3rd to last

Totally a Verbeek player I’ll grant you. But there’s no way he does that with how high a pick we end up with. He’d be passing on undeniably better players

You also on this MBN hype train? Am I the only one that feels like he’d be a huge reach for where our pick is likely to end up? (Top 5 most likely)

We've got a cushy strength of schedule (28th hardest) the rest of the way, I think we pick up a couple spots.

It's also midterm ratings, a lot of things can change by the draft. Leshunov is apparently picking up the defense, honestly it's likely the pick if he's available, he's basically a right shot mintyukov. Lindstrom is also a strong option, but if the draft was today, my money would be on one of those 3.

MBN will never out up big points, but he's the kind of hard nosed dog in him guy that you want in the playoffs, and from what I've watched, he really enables his line to excel even when he doesn't put the points up himself. That said, he's got a great shot when he uses it.

And Verbeeks give a F*** meter is basically zero, he's going to build his team with his guys.
      Jded and GeneralLandro liked this.
