Rangers add Bozak

Created by: Dizz30
Team: 2017-18 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2017
Published: Jul. 10, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Solves Rangers C problem, while the Leafs get assets for Bozak, whom they can't fit moving forward.

Maybe NYR has to give up a 2nd, but since this is a rental perhaps they can get by with offering 3rd and 5th-round picks.

This is essentially giving up a 2nd line centre for a 3rd and a 5th round pick as Holden would be slotted in as the number 6/7 guy at best on Toronto.
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Rielly-Hainsey
Carrick-Marincin
Rosen-Dermott

Lou said Hainsey will play in the top 4
Carrick is a young guy they are going to develop, he won't be moved from the 3rd pair
Dermott will likely play the first half of the season in the AHL and them make the move to round out the top 6
Marincin and Marchenko are on NHL contracts, very unlikely both of them get moved through waivers
Rosen and Borgman (The 2 new Swedish guys) have been rumoured to have 1 guaranteed spot on the opening day roster, and Lou says he expects to compete for the 6/7 role

The leafs already have a backlog of depth defencemen, I don't see them trading away someone who could fetch a 1st at the trade deadline for someone who will be waived.

Solving Rangers problem at C? What about the havoc it causes at centre for the Leafs? Leafs certainly don't want to go into the season with Moore and Fehr as starting centres. Bozak for Hayes.

You guys are really out of it; I see postings all over the Armchair GM page from Leafs fans expecting to re-sign Bozak. He won't fit, and there are already many rumors about this (and JVR and Komarov).

Do some checking on the rumor mill about Bozak to the Rangers, and I guess you'll all be surprised -- though you shouldn't be. You'll need to re-sign Nylander, Marner, Matthews, etc before too long. Connor Brown and Zack Hyman are going to get paid as well.

Hayes-Bozak is a far crazier proposal than this one; Bozak is a 31-year old rental, who would be a lifelong #2-3 center if the Leafs had found somebody better to play with Kessel. Hayes is still growing and young. NYR has plenty of space to re-sign him because Nash's contract is expiring.

Dizz30. I'll give my take as probably the longest serving Leaf fan on this site. Bozak, Komarov and JVR are really needed by the Leafs this year if they are going to make the playoffs. Leafs do not have NHL depth at centre or even much proven goal scoring at LW. The Leafs likely cannot afford JVR in 2019, and maybe not Bozak and Komarov. As the team evolves, I'm optimistic that those three guys will be replaced by cheaper guys on ELCs to makes way for the larger contracts of Nylander next season....and then Matthews , Marner, and Kapanen. But in the meantime, Bozak, JVR and Komarov almost have to stay this season, unless it for an immediate help.
I was just joking about the Hayes. Of course it was a bad trade for the Rangers long term. But the "selfish" introduction which solves the Ranger problem without addressing the Leafs issue, I had to make a comment.
And another note, many Leaf fans (proportionately) just go crazy thinking "we have to get something" for UFAs the might "walk." We not just let the player play, try to win and then deal with the "defections" and new cap space next summer.

As a Rangers fan, I know all about Lou (from the NYR-NJD rivalry). Hadn't seen that he's claiming Hainsey is a top-4 d-man, but that's just a staged statement. I think the Leafs are working on trading for another top-4 D right now. You can't win with Ron Hainsey (36 yrs old) as one of your top 4.

Also, I've watched enough Leafs hockey (and played the game enough myself) to know that Marincin is horrendous and overmatched in the NHL. Carrick isn't bad but he's small. I'm not saying that Holden is Bobby Orr, but he did have a very strong season last year.

Marner, Nylander, Komarov, Hyman and obviously Marleau can play center. Babcock doesn't hate Nylander anymore. The Leafs can afford to move Bozak for picks/prospects. Otherwise, I doubt we'd be seeing rumors about it.

are we watching the same Rangers? Holden has been horrible for all but 15 games and is horribly overmatched in the top4 too. He's a bottom pairing guy. And i'm pretty sure the Bozak to Rangers rumours we're all denied.

Dizz: To say it's obvious that Hyman and Komarov can play centre....is a stretch. They never have. Don't believe what posted positions are listed on Cap Friendly Do you want 19 year old Marner learning to play centre in the NHL. Marleau was obviously signed to be a sniper as Matthews LWer, not replace Bozak at centre. All this "hoping" at centre just to acquire Holden?
