Deadline Moves and Top Pair RD Options

Description
Maroon would be a great add to our 4th line.
Bogo would be a great add as a depth D man. He would be our #8.

I really like that trade with Minny (for both teams).

Timmins and Gregor can go to any team willing to offer something back. I really like Gregor and his speed but I wanted a more physical guy in that spot. He is a pending RFA, so he might have a bit of value. I kept McMann over him because of McManns size. I would be very happy to keep Gregor also. (same with Timmins)

Now the big thing we need is a top pair RD. Either a #2 or #3 Dman, who can move the puck well, is good defensively and who is physical.

Options:

Tanev - He is more of a #4 dman. He is not physical and does not generate any offence BUT he is very good defensively. He is a super hard worker and competitor. I don't think he moves the needle enough for the Leafs. I view him and Brodie being very comparable in terms of effectiveness.

Larsson: Larsson would be a perfect add in my mind. He checks all the boxes and he is signed for 1 more year after this one. He is Seattle's #2 Dman (behind Dunn) and top pair RD. Seattle is still fighting for a playoff spot because the West is quite weak right now. If they slip a bit more come deadline time, I can see the benefit in them selling. Even if they sell they may keep Larsson. If he were available, he would be a perfect fit in my mind.

Weegar: In the short term he would also be a great fit. His cap hit is 6.25m and we can make it work if Sammy goes back the other way. He would compliment our D group a lot. The problem with him, is that his contract takes him until he is 37. He has a full no trade clause as well and odds are Calgary will not trade him. If I am Calgary I would consider moving him, to collect a bunch of assets and to get off his contract now before it becomes a problem. They would be selling him at his highest value. Tre was the one who signed him to this contract in the first place, so I can see him gladly taking it back. This is an unlikely trade but I can see it benefitting both teams.

Walker: This is a lesser option as well and don't think he moves the needle enough either. On a cup team, he would preferably be your #5 dman. He would still be a nice addition but I don't think our D is improved enough with him on it.

Parayko: Another long shot option. Great Dman and is exactly what the Leafs would need. Odds are St Louis doesn't move him. His contract is also very long and takes him until he is an old man. St Louis would also be selling him high. St Louis has a lot of older dmen with long contracts, I think they should move as many of them off as possible. Parayko is the least likely of them to be moving though.

Savard: Savard is a beast. Plays with all heart. Physical. Blocks all the shots. He is injury prone. He is signed for this year and next year. I see him more as a #5 dman. I would be okay getting him as a bottom pair guy (and not getting Bogo). But I would only pay a bottom pair price return. I would only pay the Edmunstun package for him. 3rd + 7th for Savard (50% Retained). Montreal will more than likely pass on it though. Savard doesn't move the needle also. We would need to get one of the other guys listed as well.

Larsson is my number one. Weegar is my number 2. Tanev would be my number 3 option. First 2 being very unlikely to be moved. Tanev I don't want to pay a 1st for.

Niemela and our 1st would be in play for the guys with term.

Who else do you see as potential options?

Nothing here really helps TO. Weegar does but his contract is a blackhole. He's already 30 and we are witnessing with Brodie and Muzzin before him, your early to mid 30's are not kind to defenceman.

Adam Larsson? I think he would be a perfect add. And we would have him for this year and next. So he would still be early 30s. I think he is the perfect addition. The one who makes most sense. IF and it's a big IF he becomes available.

Add Larsson to what I have here. I like this team. I would want a middle 6 forward as well but I wouldn't hate this.

Larsson is 31. You want to spend the few remaining futures we have so we can get another old defenseman who is going to be declining very soon so we can be a little bit better for a year or two? Now is not the season to overspend on additions.

You paid 7ths for them. 2 pick upgrade on each. Minny is out of the playoffs also. This seems very reasonable.

Depends what he costs. We are in win now mode though. I do agree this team feels hard to fully believe in right now.

If you add Larsson to this roster do you believe the team can compete for a cup?
