I can’t see the Sharks retaining $4M per year for the next 6 years. It’s a good return though.

laugh Mike Grier is already retaining on Brent Burns and Erik Karlsson. He's not wasting a retention slot on Tomas Hertl for the next 6.25 years at around $25,000,000 retained for that offer. only Byram has any value late picks aren't going to cut it.

Why Matt Nieto?
I thought Avs might have an interest in Guentzel.

Fair offer for Hertl but no NHL GM is retaining 4 mil AAV for 6 1/2 years. 🙄

Our ownership didn't want to retain hardly anything for Karlsson.

LBC83 has been traded to the Avs a couple times. He really should only play for the Avs or Sharks
Edit: I think Guentzel is too rich for the Avs blood and is far from a position of need. If Landy does play this playoff and Kovalenko comes over, its a lot of tough scratches. ALso cap

PIT doesn’t have the cap space to take on Johansen, but you can have Nieto for a late-ish pick.

I could see the Nieto deal happening. I kinda just am used to him always floating around Colorado now. I don't love dumping RyJo with 2 picks but hey at least they're low end and not a 2nd like those outrageous Chicago fans want.

As you said, Hertl will never move. And even if he did, I don't think now is the time to trade Byram. That's more of a summer trade.

The Fleury trade...YES

At this point it’ll be weird if Nieto doesn’t end up back in Colorado lol.

I would love Hertl in Colorado but there’d need to be a ton of retention for it to ever be cap compliant. Would be a great fit, but that contract is loooong.
