Leafs Deadline 23-24 I

Created by: Hockey_Hippy
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 30, 2024
Published: Jan. 30, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Parayko, Colton
Additional Details:
St. Louis starts re-building here. Moving Parayko nets them three ready to play now players:

Niemela, a technician type RHD whose game reads like a healthier Kris Letang in training wheels (about .65 PPG as a 21 year old),

Steeves, a middle six scoring forward (over a point/game this season) with a hard shot, good speed, some grit, and good two way play along the lines of a Brock Nelson,

and

Ellis, a smaller PITA type with good positional play who grades out as a 4th liner who will draw his share of penalties, similar to an ill-intentioned Colin Blackwell.

Additionally they get Brodie who they can either re-sign at a pittance to mentor Niemela or walk away from in three months.
STL
  1. Brodie, TJ
  2. Ellis, Max
  3. Niemelä, Topi
  4. Steeves, Alex
Additional Details:
The Leafs get the blueline reinforcement they need but carve off the top layer of the prospect pool in Steeves and Niemela to do it.
2.
TOR
  1. Henrique, Adam ($1,825,000 retained)
  2. 2026 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
The Ducks swap out a 33 year old forward who is past his prime for a 28 year old one who is in his. While Bertuzzi's straight line game has not been a great match with the more side to side schemes of the Leafs, the bet here is he has much better success on McTavish's wing.

It is assumed that the Leafs give permission for Bertuzzi to talk to Anaheim about an extension and that he signs one.
ANA
  1. Bertuzzi, Tyler
Additional Details:
Heinrique gets to go home again (he's from a town about 100 miles from Toronto) and take one more stab at post season glory.

We have a bunch of ready to play players. You know what we don't have? Another defenseman who is capable of playing against top competition defensively.

Parayko isn't being traded.

This "offer" and these descriptions of the Leafs pieces are beyond hilarious. Neimela and Steeves aren't even the "top layer" of your prospect pool. He's not available, and if he was this proposal is embarrassing.

laugh St Louis says that Colton Parayko isn't available and only waives for Edmonton to be close to home.

laugh And why in the hell would Tyler Bertuzzi waive his NMC for a Non-Playoff team like Anaheim? Tyler Bertuzzis wife is a local Detroit area model. They're not leaving Detroit for Anaheim. What a joke.

And oh FYI, Conditional picks based on signing is no longer allowed per the new CBA. So conditional picks on Bertuzzi signing with Anaheim is illegal.

You actually think that the Ducks would give away their most valuable trade-deadline asset for another UFA, never mind one who isn't having as good a year as Henrique, never mind adding to their cap hit by retaining while absorbing the stiff's $5.5 million cap hit, never mind adding a second-round draft pick?

I, too, was a hippy in the 1970s and I occasionally have pharmaceutical flashbacks. Is this one of yours?

I missed that detail because I stopped reading at Henrique with retention plus a second for Bertuzzi. So I also missed the hilarious "a 33 year old forward who is past his prime" as evidenced by his mere 15 goals and 32 points this season (8 PP, 4 SH, 20 EV) "for a 28 year old one who is in his" as evidenced by HIS impressive 6 goals and 20 total points this season (which equals Henrique's 5-on-5 number).

Thanks for directing my attention. laugh

This is stacking bad assumption on top of bad assumption about 4 times. If Verbeek and Bertuzi are interested in making a deal, they will do so in free agency.

We're not going to pay to hold the bag for Toronto.
