I don't Chevy is going to part with a 2025 first round pick. However, I do think MTL 2024 2nd round pick could go.

That's a good package for Tanev that I don't see how Calgary could turn down. Is the difference between Tanev and Schmidt worth giving up all that?

We still have plenty of picks, and if this turns out to be the return, we still have Lucius, McGroarty, Lambert, and Barlow... our prospect pool is pretty damn decent, and we can afford to give up a couple low first rounders

The reason I think he doesn't trade his 1st a year early is for two reasons:
1. Uncertainty. If the Jets have a rash of injuries in 24-25 (like VGK did a couple of season ago) then a strong team misses the playoff and that pick is in the teens.
2. MTL's 2nd in 2024 is good trade chip. Currently it is 39 overall and that pick is going to get higher as MTL is getting worse without Monahan.

Edit: I'll add a third point. Lebrun said that the ask for Tanev 2nd RD pick + another asset

I'm willing to take the risk with the injury bug considering how well the team played without top 6 guys at different points. And I also included the first due to the retention. Retention usually increased the cost.

I don't think Chevy is that risk loving.
