Brodie have not a negative value. You can get a 3rd or a 4th rounder easily. Flame and SJ probably accept

Sharks don't even consider that. If they wanted Gregor they would have kept him. And if Sharks were willing to part with Ferraro for a late 1st he'd already be gone.
It doesn't matter what your perceived value is of Ferraro as a player, because the org values him extremely highly and doesn't want to move him unless it's an extremely good return.

Edit: Lmao I also just realized thats a first rounder 2 and a half years from now. Very easy no

I agree.
He wants to be in SJ even after the way this season has gone. Speaks volumes.

a late round 1st round pick in 2 years does nothing for the Sharks....include a good prospect and maybe that deal gets done

The only issue I can see in the near future is how to distribute minutes to him, Thrun, and Shakir in the next year or two. Add Vlasic to that mix and there's definitely some tough decisions. Generally, I don't like the idea of buying out Vlasic but I think it's the only real option to do right by a cornerstone franchise player. Waiving him would be a very bad look and he does have bottom pairing NHL level talent, just not worth taking minutes away from young guys.

Respectfully, you need to earn your spot. Despite your age/history imo.
If Vlasic justifies waiving or a buyout, it is what it is.
However, we might need him to reach the cap floor.

Ferraro is an obvious mainstay (if not traded). Thrun has more than earned his spot. Shakir has earned a spot in the NHL and in his two games, has shown he's capable of staying up. Okhotiuk I think needs some time down in the minors but is a decent 7th d-man, and Knyzhov has shown he can be a utility guy on any pairing but was a victim of circumstance and only sent down because he was the only waiver eligible d-man who they knew wouldn't get claimed with his contract. That's not including MacDonald who's primarily been a forward this season, but mostly due to injuries to forwards.

But yeah, I agree mostly but in situations where the developing player is comparable to Vlasic, that's where the difficult decisions need to be made. I've liked Grier's approach to being patient with prospects and slowly introducing them to the NHL and not just throwing them in the deep end where they might drown (ex: Korchinski & Reicher), but when they're 21-23 they need to be getting full time reps at the NHL level

Side-note, MacDonald may be the most underrated Shark this season. Not too many guys you can plug in at literally any position and still be a reliable depth player

Is Grier being patient with prospects or is he waiting for contracts he signed/inherited to expire and pushing any ELC's possible into their slides? Or both? Probably both.

MacDonald is truly a swiss army knife. Can't agree more.

It's also unreal how deep LD is for us versus RD.

Yeah i think it's definitely both but he hasn't been afraid to send guys down and the coaching staff hasn't been afraid to scratch vets who aren't performing. The guys coming back in the Karlsson deal were pretty much all cap dumps but have honestly created some value for the deadline next season when theyre pending UFAs, but have earned their playtime this year (with the exception of Hoffman)

I think the likelyhood is that they'll all get a good amount of playtime but some will need to play RD on their offhand. Not ideal, but that's where they're at

With those guys getting playtime to generate value, it's hard to see us getting the 1st overall anymore.
We should target a RD in the next draft imo.
Probably in decent shape now center wise for the next 3 years.

If we do get 1st overall you can't pass on Celebrini, but I agree, 2-4 I think it almost needs to be the best RD available. Or trade up with the PIT pick to get the 2nd best RD in the 8-15 range

NHL will be all over the hawks again with that 1st.
