Sabres would have to REALLY like Barron,
bc i know they like Ostlund quite a bit

This isn’t an absurd offer though
@FiveForFighting, appreciate you making an offer that BOTH teams could be interested in

Probably for the best anyway. More development.

This is far from being a "laughable" offer.

Buffalo will most likely decline. I think.
But they won't "hang up" or laugh it off... Barron is maturing well and is a former 1st round pick, very offesnsive minded.
And add on top of that another 1st round pick.

Not laughable. Still think BUF declines. But politely lol

We've worked hard to get players to the ahl asap. Peterka, Rosen, kulich and more. This is not a bad offer. Wouldn't be crushed to not do it, but it's fair

While likely a no by the Sabres; it isn’t a bad proposal. It’s neither ridiculously one sided or absurd to imagine. But as someone above said, the Sabres liked Ostlund enough to draft him over Kulich so they’d really have to love Barron

Before opening this post I was certain it was another Allen for 4th.
Thank for making a great trade.
There are so few this was truly refreshing.
While the Sabres drafted Ostlund before Kulich Noah may have slipped in the depth charts.
While not fully accurate Dobber ranks him behind Kulich, Wahlberg and Savoie and Hockey Writers mid season does not rank Wahlberg as highly.
Therefore Buffalo is trading away depth for a need.
All trades invovle risk, this deal gives Buffalo two chances to win, Barron and the first.
Make the deal and expect to win twice.

I think u could reason both ways
Just as easy to see the Sabres not thinking Barron is the future “top4” answer & the pick is obviously a question
Also, the Sabres really like Ostlund & might not wanna give him up- even if Kulich has passed him in the depth chart

So while (in general) i agree that it’s trading depth for a need,
it’s very possible that’s not the asset we would move- or the piece we’d want

But i do agree,
FINALLY a reasonable trade offer from a Habs fan

Value wise this is fine, but I think of the Sabres move island it will be for impact NHL talent not futures.

The only thing I would say about Montreal being hesitant to do this is that Ostlund is 5 foot 10 and 165 pounds, according to his player page on this site. I am not sure if Montreal wants to go that small again. Not much bigger than Caufield. With him on the roster Montreal’s lineup for the playoffs in a few years (hopefully) looks like it would have a tough time with the grind.

No doubt, though, he looks to be a talented player.

I used Ostlund because it was rumored he was a player the Habs liked at the draft if they couldnt land Dach!
