Description
This is a tough issue to gauge Staal's worth on the market. Just a thought, this way Carolina gets a goaltending prospect a year away from NHL playing time, a good defensive prospect, and a decent centre prospect, plus a 1st round pick. A hefty price in my opinion that fits carolina's prospect needs, and serves a purpose to help Penguins 3peat. Plus look at the powerplay for the Pens, whoof.

With the salary retention staal is a cheap solid 3rd line center that is contracted for a long time so the trade isnt just a waste on a rental (cough iginla cough). But that is still a hell of a price for a 3rd line C.

We traded a younger Jordan (who hasn't topped his Pittsburgh production or won any more Cups) for a borderline 3rd line center (Sutter), a prospect (Dumoulin), and a 1st.
I would offer them Wilson or Kuhnhackl or Hagelan, a defensemen not on our NHL roster, and a 1st. They would need to retain $1.5m to 2m as the overpaid the crap out of him and at a ridiculous term.

If they didn't accept ... then move on. No point in chasing what's not worth the price to pay for it. I'd rather have Eakin anyways.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree, thats why I was thinking it was a hefty price. Its tough to gauge Staal's market value because carolina doesnt need to trade him. However, this would only happen if Rutherford wanted to go BIG for a third line centre!

It is a very expensive price, I 100% agree. Maybe a 1st and the defensive prospect enough. I wanted to make sure I didn't offer to low of a price. However, a big deal like this would take time, I whipped it up on the fly. It would be a hell of a price for a guy that may only have 2-3 good years left. Thanks for the feedback!
