Good package for Andersson, not sure if they would be willing to move him yet with all the movement they are going to have.
Not getting Jiricek for that though. They don't want to move him as he is the only option for a future 1RD they have.

They are going to trade Erik Johnson for a 4th and do nothing the rest of the day.

I agree. It would have to be an overpayment of the moved him now. I think that they want to see if Hunter B progresses the same way Anderson or Hamilton did after leaving the OHL.

It would start with Ostlund and a 1st and go from there.

I'm on the side that Calgary should full rebuild and eventually sell Andersson. I know that's not a thing ownership wants. I just feel he's going to be expensive and on the wrong side of 30 by the time this team is a contender. But moving him now shouldn't be a thing, next season or deadline.

Both trades are bit rich for my taste; especially combined.

The Andersson trade is somewhat interesting but his contract length would make me hesitant to trade Samuelsson, a 1st and a 1st round prospect for a guy with 2 years left. At minimum that 1st needs to have some protection as well as a lesser pick needs to come back.

The 2nd trade is thus redundant; and drastic overpay. I have zero interest in trading 2 NHLers, 1 1st round prospect AHL All-Star and our 2nd for a 20 year old defenseman who whined about going back to the AHL.

Effectively, imo, if you overpay for Andersson you wouldn't target Jiricek anyway.

I agree. They need to draft some elite talent and there is only one way to do that. Moving Anderson to Buffalo, Dallas, Ottawa, or Salt Lake 😉 eventually makes sense IMO. They have the assets to pay and the need.

I'm not hopeful ownership will change their stance on the rebuild. It will end up being a forced retool like last time. At least Conroy acknowledges some form of asset management is required because drafting high isn't enough. You need to have shrewd roster building to create a supporting cast. Look at Vancouver and Colorado: both teams starting to rebuild at the same time. Colorado, however, sold off Duchene and other players to get depth while Vancouver immediately signed and traded for players past their primes. Within 5 years , the GF/ GA differential was over 250 for Colorado. It's only now Vancouver is starting to emerge from their rebuild.

If ownership was a single person and not a group would likely be different, there is some pride to be had among the elites. Doesn't help either new stadium for the Flames and Stampeders or whatever is going on there. They are going to need some cash.

The City and Province are footing most of the bill for the new arena district. Plus, it won't be ready for 3 years. If anything they should be looking at the rebuild now to capitalize on its opening. Staying mediocre for another 20 years isn't going to fill seats.

Maybe we can convince Ryan Reynolds to buy the team. Most of the ownership was old 10 years ago. I think Murray Edwards is the youngest and he is 63.
