The EBA Plan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>I know we are not trading for Nylander. I mean, come on. But as far as Elvis goes, the cap hit per se is not the real problem, it is the roster spot he occupies. But coupling that with the cap hit Elvis makes no sense here anymore.</div></div>
again, if we NEED to get him out of the locker room or we NEED to get another goaltender on the roster, we can bury his cap hit by sending him to cleveland or back to europe if he wishes. this would require waivers, where if someone claims him then our problem is completely solved. otherwise, he gets to go play huge minutes somewhere and wait to be traded to someone that needs a tendie. reduces his cap hit by a million and frees up the roster spot. we're not near the contracts limit so there's no concern there.
like squash said - we're not paying to get rid of him. and that includes a buyout that lasts 6 seasons.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>It is clear that we cannot carry Elvis and his 5.4 mil cap hit for the next 3yrs. He is not even a backup and how could you even suggest 5.4 mil per for a backup? Buy out is imminent. A lot of people should get used to the idea that we may clean house and could move salary out of town too.</div></div>
It wouldn’t even be hard a little to keep him (as long as we’re not trading for a nylander - we’re not btw) for two seasons even if we have to bury his cap hit and then move him as an expiring during the summer we need space. But somewhere along this path, someone will need goaltending and will take a chance

we cannot accept without a 100% guaranteed elvis move in place and even then it really limits our ability to get team friendly deals with term for any of the remaining RFAs.
with as many young players as we have that are going to need their own bigger contracts, we simply don't have room to take on a player that <strong><em>does not fit the timeline</em></strong>. it will guarantee us an eternity of fighting for a playoff spot but never competing exactly how nylander's toronto career has already gone.

nah bro you don't get to give willie $92 million and get out of it before it starts idc how great he'd be next to fantilli, we wouldn't do that if gaudreau wasn't going the other way. give up one of the most team-friendly contracts in the league and a 10.2c player who fits the timeline in exchange for a guy about to get paid huge for eight seasons and is 8 years older than fantilli.

you really wouldn't take the $3 million cap savings and freed up goalie rotation and just waiver him? if he gets claimed, great, if his hit is just buried, fine. term is exact same as elvis. my sticking point is that i dont think the value is that great.

i would agree with this. you can stomach paying $10 million a season for a goalie that can get so hot they go on an 11-1 playoff run at .942 SV% before the entire team falls to pieces in the scf

if columbus acquires power then we'd be sending werenski out the door. simply cant pay two LHDs over $8million each. especially also with cost-controlled 19 year old mateychuk on the way.

jiricek for ottawa's first this year is fair value given where that ottawa pick will fall and the strength of this draft. its the perfect move if someone needs to speed up their timeline and has a willing partner who wants an extra lottery shot at macklin. ottawa does need to speed up the timeline a little, especially given how long D take to develop.
however, that willing partner is not columbus.

god you're right on target here. every time i do anything future with this team i just get frustrated at how stupid all the forwards are. they're all *just* good! and there's two more coming! like what's the most likely NHL outcome for dumais? good second liner that <em>could</em> play on the top line. and he's not even here yet! brindley probably second or third liner! why are none of you just elite top liners!!!!!!!
blue liners tho? no notes. not only will werenski probably play at a #1D level for 6 more years, but we also have a clear spot available for mateychuk to slot into and jiricek will be a top pair worthy RHD. so peaceful.

he's a 6'3" 23 year old gonna put up approx 20-20-40 in year 2 after setting the team rookie goalscoring record the year prior. if you don't think he's gonna be expensive on a long deal, then buddy i got a beach house in columbus ohio to sell you.

Its a great cap clearing deal for Columbus and gives Chicago with a winger for Bedard. May not would put great but Chicago is still rebuilding. Giving wingers while you have the cap space when rebuilding for a middle pick is smart.
If Columbus because a stickler for more then Chicago can look at a low end prospect to send back and add a condition hat pick is upgrade to a 2nd rounder if they surprise and make playoffs.</div></div>
laine loves columbus and has tight connections in the locker room. we're not gonna move him for just a third. we don't have a lack of cap space and will have no need to just dump laine before his deal is up - it conveniently ends the summer that fantilli, jiricek, mateychuk, and dumais all need deals. plenty of space in the mean time especially with peeke out unretained and provorov likely gone sooner than later. everything about the situation lends to us sticking with him or getting fair value for him.

giving up major assets for another top4 LHD is maybe the worst idea i've ever seen on this website. mateychuk is not a third pair D and will be better than miller and miller is too good and will be paid too much to be just a third pair D. this is like maybe the worst management of the cbj roster imaginable.
also a joke to think 6 x $5mil gets you marchenko
