If Calgary moves up to 4th it'd be to pick Lindstrom.

Leafs pass. Nylander isn’t worth anything (understood he did well in Columbus after the trade). Chinakov looks promising but I think Toronto will roll the dice on Grebenkin and hold onto the first round pick that they need

the Jackets are not going to be interested in Marner. he just doesnt fit our needs. He also would not waive for columbus. We arent going to gut our defense to just throw another winger on the pile we already have

I'd much rather have Z on his $9.5x4 than Marner at $11Mx8. CBJ quickly pass and don't return Tree's calls for a long time.

The EBA Plan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>It is clear that we cannot carry Elvis and his 5.4 mil cap hit for the next 3yrs. He is not even a backup and how could you even suggest 5.4 mil per for a backup? Buy out is imminent. A lot of people should get used to the idea that we may clean house and could move salary out of town too.</div></div>
Columbus won’t have to pay to get rid of him. They may not get anything in return, but they’ll move him without paying this summer.

Yeah, that 3 million in 2026 right when all our best young players need new contracts is very affordable.

Would you trade Gaudreau
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>It's interesting because I am a big proponent of the Habs doing what the CBJ did when they brought in Gaudreau. I am surprised it has not had a significant impact on their rebuild.
I don't think this is right for the Habs, but I would not be upset if the cost is a late 1st round pick (like Winnipeg pick) plus a short term cap relief going back like Dvorak.</div></div>
Columbus is a conundrum. There's so much talent in the organization and it just... doesn't work. Some of it is terrible management, especially back to back bad coaches. But that can't be all of it.

Hurricanes over the top
I’d probably take that for Laine. I think he can thrive, but it’s increasingly apparent it has to be in a specific situation - he ain’t the bus-driver CBJ thought they were getting. CAR feels like it could make it work for him.
Also, remember the cap is going to $87.5 next season. Not sure how much retention adds to the package, but a consideration.

Inject Some Youth Next Season
Kent Johnson is not going to be moved this summer, if only because he'll be in the middle of a 6-9 month rehab process after labrum repair surgery. Teams do not trade players in that situation, and more importantly, teams do not acquire players in that situation.

I think that's a waste of time, effort, money, and a contract slot. Just move Elvis for nothing and bam, problem solved. No reason to take on someone else's three-year cap dump in the process.
We would have so much popcorn to buy to eat while watching Elvis vs Toronto media, after all. That would be a match made in hell.

Yeah Bob was the weirdest one to put on here, because he can be such a great goalie, but 10 mil for a position that around the NHL can just flip the off switch at any moment is scary.

The inclusion of Kampf makes a hard pass for Columbus. Way, way too much term for a player with no roster spot on the Blue Jackets for where they are in the rebuild cycle.

You're missing the other critical component of what makes someone a cap dump, though. Columbus doesn't need the cap space. They are not under any financial pressure to move him. It's like Andrew Peeke, to be honest. Every other fanbase here was screaming at us that he was a cap dump we'd have to pay to move even with retention and then... we moved him with no retention for a third and a meaningless AHL player. Elvis a perfectly serviceable average goalie, yes overpaid for that but not egregiously so. A bit of a clubhouse cancer? Almost certainly. But he is not a cap dump.

Keep Stillman and Hatakka, Columbus still says yes. Keep the 4th, too. You could probably keep the conditional 2nd and send us just the 4th and Allen instead. Elvis is an average goaltender, he should rebound in a new system but he's not going to be Saros. His contract makes him a slightly positive asset at best.
If you're not having us retain, Allen and a pick is totally fine for a guy who's possibly 3rd on our surprisingly good goalie depth chart now. The cap space and roster flexibility alone makes it worth it in the long run.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JacketsComrade</b></div><div>by that logic then johnny is 100% worth his considering he's in the same cbj situation and producing even more than patty</div></div>
Laine is only 25 and is signed to that deal essentially through what could be the "prime" years of his career if he turns it around.
Johnny has already hit his peak and has 6 years left at 9.75 until he is 36, I'd neither of those deals are even that bad though. Both guys can still be 80+ point players even by next year if Columbus starts getting some much deserved luck health wise.
