Sabres would have ZERO INTEREST
Not gonna pay a bundle for a 31year old w that contract
Good player, but he doesn’t fit our timeline
And we aren’t looking to add a Cap Hit like that

I think u guys would have to retain (at least a couple mil) to get someone interested in paying what you’d wanna get back

If you can get a player for free using nothing but money in a bidding war vs every other team, use him for the last of his 20s have him significantly decline, and then trade him for significant assets instead of having to pay him 10 mill a year until he’s 36, that is a win.

I think the Habs would consider it depending on cost. We’re clearly trying to fast track our rebuild, you’re trying to slow yours down. Any pick the Habs offer is probably better than anyone else’s and we have cap space. But I don’t think Gaudreau would ever accept.

Who's taking that Gaudreau contract?

5 years @9.75 mil? 😬

It's interesting because I am a big proponent of the Habs doing what the CBJ did when they brought in Gaudreau. I am surprised it has not had a significant impact on their rebuild.

I don't think this is right for the Habs, but I would not be upset if the cost is a late 1st round pick (like Winnipeg pick) plus a short term cap relief going back like Dvorak.

Columbus is a conundrum. There's so much talent in the organization and it just... doesn't work. Some of it is terrible management, especially back to back bad coaches. But that can't be all of it.

Between Raymond and Kane, Detroit doesn't need to be paying trade assets and then $9.75M to add another small winger.

On what planet is Gaudreau worth CHI's 2024 1st?

You'd have a hard time selling gaudreau without retaining a good chunk of that cap hit. Chicago wouldn't be interested. They already have too many little guys as it is.

More importantly, how do you ask him to waive and not severely diminish the return? Remember how picky he was in free agency? He will be even pickier under an NMC.

I think the human brain adapts to be "OK" with losing after a certain amount of it. I think players who play on teams that make it "OK" to lose, can sometimes get permanently stained by it. I have no proof, it's just what I believe.

I hope the Sharks don't do the 5 year rebuild thing. It really doesn't work.

I don't really understand what Grier is doing?

Retaining on that Hertl contract still puzzles me. 🙄

I would have liked my Habs to go get Hertl... No retention. Ideally we could have dumped a few guys short term like Dvorak & Armia (both expire next year).

C'est la vie!

Gaudreau is turning 31 on a big money deal with a full control on where he goes and specific regional preferences. I think you're seriously overestimating his trade value with most of these.
