Chicago isn't retaining for the duration of that contract. Especially not for a 5th. I'm sure they had plenty of opportunities to retain on other team's trades this TDL and passed on every one. They've got plenty of picks in the next few drafts so burning a retention slot for a 5th really isnt worth it.

I’d probably take that for Laine. I think he can thrive, but it’s increasingly apparent it has to be in a specific situation - he ain’t the bus-driver CBJ thought they were getting. CAR feels like it could make it work for him.

Also, remember the cap is going to $87.5 next season. Not sure how much retention adds to the package, but a consideration.

FWIW, most of the injuries have been fluky ****. Dirty hits, slew feet, awkward board slams, and finally, his stint in the PAP.

It isn’t a bad-conditioning issue, it’s mostly bad luck. He’s fortunate he’s spent the majority of his time with CBJ as a near PPG player (.793 PPG). The problem is, timelines don’t match, and there are younger (and in JG’s case, more expensive) guys who need the T6 time.

These are awful for the Canes. Burns has been pretty great for them, and Jarvis is already just as good as Schmaltz. Kotkaniemi isn’t a cap dump, just so many things wrong.

That KK trade is SHAMBOLIC? Why are we paying to move one of the most dynamic young chance creators in hockey? EASY pass. Jarvis >> Schmaltz, I want to know what you're smoking, Why is Brent Burns being gifted away for no reason? WAY Too much for Laine, Kostin was just a cap dump at the deadline and now we're paying for him? Why sign Bertuzzi over Teuvo? You set the Canes back about a decade doing any of this.

This entire post post was clearly a troll job.... but just to make sure we're on the same page, Carolina would want nothing to do with Laine much less give up actual assets to get him. Not knocking the player and his rough luck/situation, just acknowledging reality.

oh, very fair. This is an absolute overpay for Laine as it stands.

These are all absolute overpays for Carolina, it's absurd...but disguised enough that it makes you do a double-take.

As far as troll jobs go...nice.

Kk is one of the worst contracts in the leauge 6 years left for an overpaid 4th liner isn't going to be cheap to dump. Kk has low point totals this year and bad defensive metrics and not trusted by the coach proven by his ice time. If he was good at creating chances he'd have more points or at the very least more ice time. Your blant pro hurricanes bias is just to strong to see otherwise

6 years on a 23 year old whose already a dominant middle six center... he's got low point totals THIS year, but is coming off a 40 point year. His defensive metrics are actually good, and Rod trusts him, hence why he's still playing on the deepest roster in the NHL. He's incredibly strong at creating chances, and if you want to use analytic to justify his defense, you cannot overlook his 3.1 xGF/60. His offensive issues are partly because he went cold and partly because his linemates are COMPLETELY offensively inept. I'm realistic with the Canes, when someone is bad, I'll admit that. I'm one of the few that does not have any faith in Chatfield for example, but you choose to attack me personally because you do not watch Kotkaniemi? Brother, stop it. Stick to your Toronto delusions, we don't need you

That's simply not true, he's getting played like a 4th liner he should be doing more look at Knies and Hoglander they are doing much more with the same amount of ice time. I'm not attacking you in the slightest me saying your a biased Canes fan is just factual. No one but you and handful of Canes fans thinks KK is positive value

Hoglander is shooting 20%, and Knies plays with Matthews and Marner... stop it. Kotkaniemi has dominant possessional metrics and an ELITE xGF/60. He's a positive value contract. That's just a fact, and if you watch the Canes, you'd know this. I'm not attacking you, I'm just assuming you're like everyone else that only looks at box scores and doesn't see just how good Kotkaniemi is. Again, coming off a 40 point season with dominant defensive analytics, he's been fantastic again. There is no bias in here.
