Ducks Target Necas
Canes fan here... Necas has nearly as much skill as any player in the league but his inability to put it together consistently is frustrating at times for sure. I think he's stays a wing (even if he thinks he can play in the middle.) The only thing I'd mention in regards to his offense is that he hasn't had the opportunity to play with a legitimate top 6 C over the last 2 years. He doesn't play with Aho and the C depth doesn't offer a ton offensively-speaking behind him. Defensively he is what he is; you'll always want more with that size/speed/length combo but he's also not as bad as some will make him out to be. I think he's a player that can help nearly any team on the right deal but that deal can't start with a 7 and even the mid 6's is a stretch at times.

No need to swap bad contracts. I think Kotkaniemi is the lesser of the two evils and at least has age on his side.

Buch is a real nice player... but you wouldn't get close for that in a return form Carolina. Beyond that, there is 0% chance that Necas signs that term or amount. I'd say his floor is 6x6. I don't really see a situation where he'd take less than 6 years or 6M per.

From a Canes fan, you're overpaying for Pesce. I think he's been a great player for many years but at his age I think 7.1 is way too much but at least the term is good. If it's paying more for less term then maybe but still seems a bit high.
Would also strongly consider the Zegras deal for Carolina. I don't disagree that there would be a slight nod in value towards Zegras, I think they're close enough that I'd take the younger/cheaper player.

I think your return for Necas is in the realm of fair/reasonable. However, canes keep him if he's signing for 7M or less. I think 7-7.5 would be about as far as Carolina would be willing to go where as I could see Necas wanting 8+; If that scenario plays out, then you can see a situation where Canes would move him. I think all these proposals where he's extending for 6-7 are unrealistic simply because if that's the cost he's likely staying in Carolina.

What are you using as a basis for Staal being an anchor? I think KK would be a fine 3C but they already have a fine 3C that cost 2M less.

6-6.5 Seems about like what Necas is getting... Tippet is good comp and he got $6.2
Noesen seems like he wants to stay in Raleigh and there is a history of people resigning for a lot less than what they could have gotten on the market with the Hurricanes... just look at Aho
Skjei is probably about $.5 to $1m off and about 2 or 3 years off
You can replace Martinook with somebody for that cap hit that does the defensive shutdown job</div></div>
For sure, I didn't think anything you had was crazy, just my slight tweaks. I think Necas will want Bratt type $
I don't disagree that there are players who would take a discount to play with this roster/city, but you can't really compare Aho/Noesen. Aho was already set for life and was getting 'FU' money from anyone. Noesen's never been paid, won't get much term and it could be the last chance he has to cash in.
The KK question was for Caniac2000.... I fully agree with your take that he's likely gone.

I'm genuinely curious on what you think the Canes should do with KK.
Once they acquired Kuzey there isn't a spot for him. If you want to extend your window now, you can't keep him on the 4th line at that price. Sure in 2 years they may have a use for him, but you can't waste that cap space now.

Necas will cost more in term and AAV. Jarvis wont be a 1 years deal; likely 2 or 6-8 years.
Martinook isn't taking 1M. Would likely be a similar 1.8x2 year deal.
Noesen should look for the biggest deal he can get, it won't be from the Canes.
Skjei will get more in term & AAV, he's likely gone.
That's too high a price to cut ties with KK. Can get it done for less.

Who gets extended 24-25
Staal isn't going anywhere, has a no movement clause, and despite what some will yell, still produces at least up to his contract value.
Love Teuvo, but he's not coming back at that number. I think it's a long shot for him to be back unless he take a sizable home-town discount.
I do think they look to move on from KK. The return isn't the reward, it's the cap space they need to reallocate to the top 6 forwards or top 4 D. Just can't have 4.8 sitting in the bottom 6. It's not about the player at this point, it's about the contract.
Your Necas/Jarvis deals are in the right ballpark in my opinion but I hope you're a little high on them both would like to knock off 500K from each #. I do think Jarvis will be a bridge if only to extend their current window for 2 more years before they go into a more sizable roster reconstruction.

For Necas Overly Complex I Know
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD25</b></div><div>You are right, this trade comes short. As a Carolina fan, what kind of return would you expect for Necas?</div></div>
In an ideal world they keep Necas, it really comes down to the price tag.
If they decide he is too expensive to keep and need the $ to spread over the rest of the roster they're going to want players who are NHL ready and on ELCs or players that are under contract on deals below market value. This makes who they'd consider in return a relatively small list. Not saying there won't also be some sort of prospect/draft pick component to it, but it would be extremely unlikely that would make up the bulk of the value in any package to get a deal done.
It's not simply about player to player value, it's also about when the players will be available and with the Canes current roster construction and window they are looking for players who will contribute now not 3-4 years from now.

Offseason
I think this is really close and does a good job showing the Cap Crunch the Canes are facing.
A few things I see as up in the air.
1. It's possible you flip/flop Necas and Guntzel. Necas won't cost 9M (my guess is 6.5-7.5) and 4 years younger. Guntzel is great but if he goes to market he's getting 9+ easy and hard to see Canes paying market rate.
2. The Canes have a decision to make on Necas but they don't have to decide that fate this summer. They can carry him into next season through a short term contract or arbitration if it comes to that (which would almost guarantee he's gone after, but it's an option).
3. I would expect the Canes to try to move KK. With the entire center group (assuming you're right and in the ballpark with Drury) back next season, Canes just can't go into a cup window year with 4.8M as a 4C or bottom 6 winger.
4. Out of Skjei/Pesce I agree the Pesce option is the more likely but I don't see him fetching that much. This will sounds low but I don't see the Canes going past 5Y/5.25M.
All in all, I think you've done a nice job and something that is realistic (outside of maybe the Necas trade because I do agree if he is traded that Calgary doesn't have the type of assets Carolina would be looking for in return. Trade could very much happen but I'd be surprised if it's with that team.)

Hurricanes over the top
This post is clearly a troll job.... but <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>I’d probably take that for Laine. I think he can thrive, but it’s increasingly apparent it has to be in a specific situation - he ain’t the bus-driver CBJ thought they were getting. CAR feels like it could make it work for him.
Also, remember the cap is going to $87.5 next season. Not sure how much retention adds to the package, but a consideration.</div></div>
This entire post post was clearly a troll job.... but just to make sure we're on the same page, Carolina would want nothing to do with Laine much less give up actual assets to get him. Not knocking the player and his rough luck/situation, just acknowledging reality.

There isn't a chance the Canes would take that return, but in the alternate universe where they did, you're still not signing Necas at 6.5 x 8. If he would take that the deal would be done today and he'd be staying in Carolina.

My offseason fantasy moving forward for both teams and all players
I appreciate the effort and thought put into this but it is very far off. As previously mentioned Jarvis is almost a near untouchable for the canes. It was actually quite comical reading this comment. "Jarvis has 2 more points a whole lot less size grit leadership and defensive ability." There is tons to rebut but it's not worth taking the time other than just laughing it off.
While I do think the Canes look to offload KK to someone this summer (They'll need his cap space off the books) I don't think either Kadri or Coleman fit their needs. For starters Kuzentsov is still under contract at 3.9 next year so unless he looks washed down the stretch and into the playoffs, I fully expect the Canes to roll with him and his expiring contract rather than take on an even older player at double the cost with a lifetime left on his contract.
While Coleman is no Jarvis, he is a really nice player, but again, there really isn't a spot for him. *IF* (and it's a big IF) Necas & Guntzel return there isn't a top 6 spot for Coleman. If either of those guys is gone, I would expect them to bring back Teravainen (who is 3 years younger and a coaches favorite) at or below the 4.9 Colman is costing.
I don't think the Flames are a great fit in what they would have to offer in return, but it's more likely that Necas would be impact player that gets moved this summer.

I love Brady as a player but he's as good as gone. Been a great Hurricane but they aren't going to be able to afford him nor do they want to give him the term he'll be looking for and offered on the open market. Orlov isn't going anywhere until the rest of the D-core shakes out.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Okay, well, Suzuki has no real value here. The Blues have seen him up close this season, so he's not paying for retention with a 6th. And yeah, KK is just a pass altogether. At least from me. As for Morrow, other Blues fans are higher on him than me. I don;t think he matches the specs of what they need. But yeah, some Blues fans would happily take the 1st and Morrow. I'm holding the line on what I'd want in a Buch trade.</div></div>
I think all of that is fair. From a Blues perspective I think I would also want a little more. This proposal is more where I think the Canes would go to, not this is the amount it would take to actually push something across the finish line.

I think he would simple because there is less pressure to be moved. Pitt had to make a deal or risk losing him for nothing. Buchnevich has a reasonable cap hit and the added year on the contract.
My thought was you move KK our for the added cap space Canes will need next year, Essentially Morrow and a 1st (would have to move to 2025 first if Canes make finals)for the player and the 6th and Suzuki for the retention.
