Description
JD says Mateychek had to force his way onto the Jacket next year. Keep Provorov until ther TDL, and get someone to overpay. This forces Mateychek into the A until the TDL, while upgrading the top 4 with Jirick and Miller.

Speak for yourself. The Rangers have much to give other than Miller, for a Johnson trade.

Does NYR really need another slight forward on the left side? Feels like the same situation as in Columbus where he’s stuck behind Gaudreau on the depth chart. Maybe he’s seen as a successor to Panarin in a couple years? In that case, it might be a good fit if Kreider can play 3rd line or on the right side.

giving up major assets for another top4 LHD is maybe the worst idea i've ever seen on this website. mateychuk is not a third pair D and will be better than miller and miller is too good and will be paid too much to be just a third pair D. this is like maybe the worst management of the cbj roster imaginable.

also a joke to think 6 x $5mil gets you marchenko

Why is it a joke to think 5m gets a guy with 32 points on the year lmfao??

Yea definitely not. They need defense more than another young forward who probably won’t develop well for the rangers

because 6 years means you're buying year one of his UFA and that always raises your AAV. if you did 5 x $5 million i wouldn't have bat an eye.

he's a 6'3" 23 year old gonna put up approx 20-20-40 in year 2 after setting the team rookie goalscoring record the year prior. if you don't think he's gonna be expensive on a long deal, then buddy i got a beach house in columbus ohio to sell you.

I wouldn't go that extreme, but I don't like the idea of trading Johnson unless we're getting a near-established star forward coming back. With Mateychuk coming up and Werenski here long-term, spending assets like that to get at best a 2LD is short-sighted IMO. I'm not totally opposed, but if it's more than 1 for 1 Columbus is out.

CBJ historically underpay our RFAs, Marchenko is great but he hasn't even cracked 40 points yet. I'm expecting something south of $6M for 4-5 years, 6x$5M is low but it's not a joke. 5x$6M is about equally likely.

Being 23, anything longer than a 3-year bridge will be buying RFA years, so 5 vs 6 doesn’t really matter. Also, he broke the rookie goal scoring record as a 22 year old, which was previously held by two 18 year olds, PLD and Nash, so it’s not nearly as significant as you think.

This year he’s a .5 ppg player as a 23 year old. He’s good enough to deserve some term but he’s not a top line player on a good team so he’s not getting top dollar. The deal could fluctuate in both term and AAV, Id say closer to 5x5 or 6x6, but 5x6 is not far off at all from what he’s likely to get so just settle down there partner.

He'll be 24 this summer so anything beyond 1 year would go into RFA. This is when it is wise to negotiate a longer term deal with 4-6 years of term.

Also, Marchenko is a year older than Chinakhov, who was nearly a .5 ppg last year and is .55 ppg this year. I'm for extending both long term, but if only one of them is getting a long-term extension, it should be China.
