TORONTO: Gets rid of Timothy Liljegren who has not performed to a certain standard that the leafs had hoped from him. He has been part of this organization for 7 years now and has not delivered the quality the leafs were expecting from him when they drafted him. Toronto trades Robertson as well which would make me upset because I really like Robertson but a blind man can see that the leafs are arming to trade him and any trade they make is roster in roster out. Also lose their first, and honestly, I do not see the leafs trading their first this year. Also 3 fifths for salary retention.
They gain another left handed defence man which they don't really need but Ferraro is the real deal, a solid penalty killing defence man with high defensive IQ and a puck eater. Also Duclair who can fit in any slot they put him in from 1st line to 4th line winger.

SAN JOSE: San Jose loses their number 1 defence man and a top line winger. It sounds like a lot but San Jose is god awful this year. They would likely try to get 2 firsts or a first and a top prospect for both of these players but that is unlikely.
They gain Robertson who I believe has high upside and would fit in nicely with the young core they are bringing up. They get another crack at the failed experiment that is Timothy Liljegren, who in turn gets to boost his ice time and likely gets PP1, Top pair time.

CHICAGO: gets three fifths for a little under 3 mil

lolol 2 first round picks and a 2nd round pick for a 4-5 D man making 3m a year for 2 more years? lol Duclair is irrelevant because he is on an expiring contract so is a non factor in the trade for TO. And you wanna give up 3 more picks for some retention? lol This is nutty lol
My trade offer would be a first round pick straight up for Ferraro. And I would offer a single 5th round pick to SJ to retain 50% on Ferraro until the end of this year. Leafs can take over the full contract after that. Any more than that and its a no go.

Sharks fan - Don't disagree with you on the payment for Duclair and Ferraro but both last year and so far this year thats what its going to take to move anyone at the deadline. + you cant retain for only 1 year it needs to be the entirety of the contract so for us to use our last retention spot on Ferraro it will take a lot more than to send him to some other organization and have them retain, + it will take more to retain Ferraro and Duclair for 3 5th rounders as if you retain on Ferraro it will be for 3 seasons.

Also a sharks fan, and I agree. I just hope they end up with a good return for duclair and maybe even re-sign ferraro to take up vlassic's spot (his play style not his play) when he retires. I don't want a 5 year rebuild they need roster guys with upside for the long term and either guy can be that potentially. In terms of salary retention that's up to Shanahan and Treliving, Grier has all the leverage when it comes to that and if he doesn't want to he shouldn't.

Yep Grier is in the drivers seat this trade deadline hopefully he doesn't drive us off a bridge by not getting more than he should

Hawks aren’t tying a retention slot for 2 more seasons (Ferraro) for 5th rounders. If they have 1 left over & it’s close to quitting time on trade deadline they possibly agree to retain on Duclair, but that would be a last option type thing.

I don't really understand why you're having Chicago retain on Duke and only having the Sharks retain 25%. Chicago retaining 50% of 75% is equal to 37.5% total. The Sharks aren't concerned about the dollars owed to Duke, they're concerned about using their final retention slot so any amount retained is effectively the same. The difference between 37.5% and 50% of the full contract would be 375k, but since we're around 60% of the way through the season it's closer to 150k and if it were at the TDL about 75% of the way through the season it'd be $93,750. I get that the Leafs are cap strapped but that difference isn't worth the additional cost for an extra team to retain.
