<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ckilpatrick1</b></div><div>Sharks fan - Don't disagree with you on the payment for Duclair and Ferraro but both last year and so far this year thats what its going to take to move anyone at the deadline. + you cant retain for only 1 year it needs to be the entirety of the contract so for us to use our last retention spot on Ferraro it will take a lot more than to send him to some other organization and have them retain, + it will take more to retain Ferraro and Duclair for 3 5th rounders as if you retain on Ferraro it will be for 3 seasons.</div></div>
Also a sharks fan, and I agree. I just hope they end up with a good return for duclair and maybe even re-sign ferraro to take up vlassic's spot (his play style not his play) when he retires. I don't want a 5 year rebuild they need roster guys with upside for the long term and either guy can be that potentially. In terms of salary retention that's up to Shanahan and Treliving, Grier has all the leverage when it comes to that and if he doesn't want to he shouldn't.

Shannahanigans
TORONTO: Gets rid of Timothy Liljegren who has not performed to a certain standard that the leafs had hoped from him. He has been part of this organization for 7 years now and has not delivered the quality the leafs were expecting from him when they drafted him. Toronto trades Robertson as well which would make me upset because I really like Robertson but a blind man can see that the leafs are arming to trade him and any trade they make is roster in roster out. Also lose their first, and honestly, I do not see the leafs trading their first this year. Also 3 fifths for salary retention.
They gain another left handed defence man which they don't really need but Ferraro is the real deal, a solid penalty killing defence man with high defensive IQ and a puck eater. Also Duclair who can fit in any slot they put him in from 1st line to 4th line winger.
SAN JOSE: San Jose loses their number 1 defence man and a top line winger. It sounds like a lot but San Jose is god awful this year. They would likely try to get 2 firsts or a first and a top prospect for both of these players but that is unlikely.
They gain Robertson who I believe has high upside and would fit in nicely with the young core they are bringing up. They get another crack at the failed experiment that is Timothy Liljegren, who in turn gets to boost his ice time and likely gets PP1, Top pair time.
CHICAGO: gets three fifths for a little under 3 mil

One man rebuild
Sign and trade Nylander, Chicago gets a player that can accelerate their rebuild and a speedy winger with high upside in Robertson. Leafs get a top prospect, 2 good/okay prospects and a cheap true right hand defenceman. Chicago may be giving up more fro a guy that may essentially get in free agency this summer but nylander can quickly turn that franchise around and robertson has potential I just don't see him as a fit on toronto and they hsould move him while they still can.

Nylander to CGY w extension
Almost certain Calgary would be on Nylander's no trade list however this is a solid return and fair for both sides. Lindholm does have more value than Nylander despite whatever delusional leafs fan may say because he is a centerman. Don't see this trade as likely because the leafs have so many players who can play center and Calgary only really has Kadri but this is the best Nylander related trade I've seen in terms of value and return.

Off The Board EK65 Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GuyGuyGuy</b></div><div>This is just dumb. Not even off the board</div></div>
This is what Karlsson is worth and you guys have the worst defense core in the league. Montreal won't be a playoff team for years because of how good the atlantic is. Enjoy cheering for a perpetual bottom feeding team.

Off The Board EK65 Trade
Very unlikely trade first and foremost.
If Hughes thinks his team is ready to take the next step or will be by next year it might be time to strengthen up that D Core. Hands down Montreal has the worst defensive core in the NHL, back that up with the worst goalies in the league and they just can't go anywhere. With Boston and Tampa aging out of playoff spots and Ottawa and Detroit weaponizing towards a playoff spot Montreal might have to get into the race or risk losing the development of their prospects. EK65 is a great defenseman, some think he's a defensive liability but compared to who is on Montreal he's Jaccob Slavin. Montreal has no forechecking coming from the backend or neutral zone momentum changes, EK excels at both those things. EK on the Canadiens guarantees them an improvement over last season, maybe not playoffs but a serious improvement.
San Jose gains a good defensive prospect in Guhle to hopefully replace the hole Karlsson has left and Hutson is a top prospect. The second is for taking on Anderson's god awful contract (he hasn't hit 50 points in his career ffs). The first is for the 8 million dollars the Sharks will retain over four years.

Personally I don't mind this trade the only problem is rangers aren't looking for defenseman because they don't have room to sign Miller who I think they'd much rather have. Good return for Boston but maybe from a different team.

too much for laf, hes unproven and has played abysmal so far with only one year left on his contract. Reichel is a top prospect and adding a first and a second is far too much.

Caps Get Centerman
Washington has horrible centre depth with Backstrom getting older and unable to stay healthy and Kuznetsov who has requested a trade. Hertl doesn't fit the timeline for a full San Jose rebuild, seven year contract for a 1st line centre man for a team that should be looking at acquiring prospect and draft capitol.
San Jose stocks up on three high draft picks, an alright prospect while taking on Kuznetsov's contract who wont put up huge numbers but will still play.
Washington continues the win now while we have Ovechkin mentality while screwing over their already weak prospect pool. Washington shouldn't make this trade ever but they might while they still have Ovechkin and want to win.

This looks like the best package that San Jose could realistically get for Karlsson. I don't know why Carolina would pursue him though he doesn't fit their lineup.

Nylander's playing style would mesh well with the rangers and the rangers don't have room for/can't pay Miller. Rangers also don't know if they want to resign Laf or if he'd want to resign with them.

I actually like this trade for both teams. Seems like an equal deal I don't know if Helle would resign in Buffalo but this could be a package the Jets like. They get players that can play now and a 1st.

Leafs Bailout
Quite a package for a guy with one year left. Would make sense if it was a sign and trade however I don't think Detroit is willing to pay what Nylander wants and it would cause problems in signing all of their young players coming off their early contracts. Also Nylander does not seem like a Yzerman guy I don't think he'd make a push for him.

Risky Ducks Trade
Risky Trade for both teams involved but here are the pros and cons.
Ducks PROS: You get a solid return for a player who's requested a trade which isn't always the case. You take on Kuz who could help with coming out of the rebuild and is relatively low risk with only 2 years left on his deal. You also get a defenseman with high upside to quarterback your second PP and who can eat up a lot of minutes if needed. Kuempner is also a stanley cup goaltender.
DUCKS CONS: You lose a top 10 goaltender in the league for a fringe top 20 goaltender. You also lose a top prospect in Gaucher.
CAPS PROS: You get top 10 goaltending as well as a prospect who can elevate your incredibly weak prospect pool and has high upside. You also get a somewhat good return for someone who's requested a trade
CAPS CONS: You lose your number 1 center man and don't fill it with anyone else. Backstrom is also getting older so you're looking very weak up the middle. You also lose Sandin who has high upside and couldve replaced Carlson after he retires and now that hole is left open too.
IMO CAPS lose this trade but not by a lot and could be the best both teams get for the players who have requested trades.

Rangers don't really have room for Matheson so paying 5mil for a player who's going to get bottom pairing minutes might not make sense. Would love to see laf on the Habs tho I think he'd develop amazing over there.

Who says no
As a leafs fan absolutely love this trade would maybe change Lilly for a different asset but would absolutely do it if that's what it came down to.
Unfortunately there's no way Lou would do this trade Nylander wouldn't mesh well with the system and atmosphere they've cultivated on the Island.
