Team: 2023-24 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 15, 2023
Published: Feb. 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dallas has the desire to improve the backup goalie, veteran forward depth, and to add a retained defenseman in this scenario.

Top defensive prospect Bichsel is the prize for Washington. The first is a late first.

How far off is this?
If Dallas adds, what do they add?

I think this is too confusing for the sake of it. Make it Lindgren+Dowd for DAL 1st+Bischel. Maybe Caps throw in a more.

Depends a lot on how Caps management feels about Bischel, he seems to be putting up good but not great D+2 numbers but have no opinion on him personally beyond that.

Overall though I would say Fehervary probably doesn't make sense for the Caps to move in a package like this, where they're trading him for a guy that theoretically could play his role in a year or two. He's only 24 and just re-signed on a great deal, I think the only reason they would move him is in a package for an elite forward.

Dowd + Lindgren for the 24 1st + a little extra + salary filler is something I think definitely would work though

Don’t you think a goalie should go back the other way? There needs to be some sort of cap balancing.

I agree that Fehervary and Bichsel will probably be similar players. Bichsel still needs to adjust to the smaller ice of the US.

Would you say that Dowd + Lindgren for a 24 1st + Wedgewood + Dadonov a fair trade?

That's fine, throw in Wedgewood.

I might want a little extra draft compensation (25 3rd rounder?) and would be a bit annoyed taking back the extra year of Dadonov (and he may not waive his NTC) but I would say that's pretty fair.

Would still want to see what Dowd/Lindgren could get moving them separately as well, especially Lindgren to a team in need of a starter/1b and not just a better backup

Fehervary isn't moving. Caps don't necessarily need a goalie coming back, especially if MacLellan decides to full sell on the season. What about a center prospect coming back instead of Bischel? The Caps future at center is pretty rough

From a Dallas perspective, I would like to rest Otter more. Having Lindgren is good insurance incase something happens. I like the game Dowd can bring.

You might have a better return by moving both separately. When looking at pieces to sell, I notice you don’t have many centers. How about another variation…

Dellandrea + Dadonov + Wedgewood + 24 1st
For
Dowd + Pacioretty + Lindgren
