This would be a grave mistake. Ferraro (and any defensive D really) is someone you trade for to put you over the top, not to become a contender.

They're in deep doodoo. Ten UFAs, including Reinhart and Montour. Three RFAs, including Lundell. As of today, they'll have 28M to fill 13 roster spots. I highly doubt they can keep him.

The Sharks don't move him for a second. You may be right about that being his value externally but he's only 25 so he could still be useful as we start to move out of the rebuild in a few years. The odds of a second round pick reaching his level of play are slim. He shouldn't be playing top pairing minutes but the Sharks' defense corpse (typo intentional to emphasize how bad it is) forces him into that position. Aside from on ice he's one of the leaders in the locker room as well which adds to his value to the team/the cost they'd charge for him.
