Let’s analyze these trades:
Orlov 1st+2nd+3rd
Craig Smith: cap dump, 3rd round pick
Now we’re down to 1st+2nd
Don’t forget the retention+Getting Garnett Hathaway. That’s a second
Incorrect. Boston gave up an extra 5th for Minnesota to retain.
A cap dump in the final year of their contract making $3+ for a 3rd round pick? interesting. Let's keep that in mind for later.

Now to the Lindholm deal:
It had a 2 year AHL 5+ mill cap dump in it+ retention.
And there go the pair of 2nds
Now you're just making stuff up. John Moore was in the final year of his deal and his cap hit was $2.75m. At worst this was a 1st, a 2nd, and Vaakanainen for Lindholm with retention.
So that means it's a 2nd round pick for a cap dump that was making less than $3m on the final year of their deal. Interesting. Let's keep that in mind for later.

Later 1st+Vaak is approximately equal to just NJDs 1st currently 15th overall
And what happens when New Jersey goes from disastrous goaltending (team save % .884) to potential Vezina caliber goaltending (.916)? That 15th overall pick suddenly isn't going to be a 15th overall pick.

Not even considering holtz, who when SJS asked for were told “if holtz, then only holtz”
And?
New Jersey doesn't hold any of the cards here, Calgary does. They don't need to trade Markstrom for several more years, if at all, and will have plenty of other options when trading Hanifin. You guys are the contender that is on the verge of missing the playoffs bc you can't get a save and your best defenseman is out. If you don't want to waste another year of Hughes cheap cap hit, it will cost you.

24 1st for Hanifin unretained lines up with comps there. But we’ll throw in a Kevin bahl to match Vaak.
And what about the cap dump for Vanacek? This year AND next at $3.4m? If John Moore (1yr @ $2.75) cost a 2nd, well, that's at least two 2nds for New Jersey.

25 1st for Markstrom+3rd+4th.
Darcy Kuemper (w/$1m retention) went for a 1st, a 3rd, and a prospect. He's not as good as Markstrom and was in the final year of his contract. If I'm Calgary, I wouldn't trade 2+ years of Markstrom for a 1st straight up, let alone add to it.

I would consider but would probably pass as NJD.
Vanacek: .890% behind a Stanley Cup contender
Markstrom: .916% behind a bubble team
You'd pass on that? Seriously?
