Would rather a 1st than broberg and 2 2nds. Broberg would get about the same usage in WSH which isnt great for his development

Broberg is arguably more valuable than what would be available at 32oa

I would have interest in Kane in Pit. They badly need a player with some bite. He would also help the power play too. Trade is a good blend of getting a player to help remain competitive now while getting some good future pieces.

Wonder if Edmonton would do that though.

Why? its only 2m and his replacement only makes 800k$. Id move him and retain just to open up a roster spot for a future player

i've always hated the idea of retaining on anything more than an expiring deal. cap situations can change in a single offseason. although with the cap going up, it's probably more reasonable than I make it out to be

Jensen CapHit is 4m.... Iorio + 2m retained = 2.9 ish. you actually save money while developing a NHL ready player

EDM would probably do that Pitt one if Holloway was removed and Guent came with an extension that was reasonable, seeing that he said no to 8.5M though (rumour) I don't think we'd bite.
WSH one looks nice though.

I think Oilers just try to win a cup then talk to Guentzel about long term deal at 8million while being on a team with the best player in the league. like imagine going from Sid to Mcdavid thats a fantastic career

Guent would more likely play with Drai if he came over, not saying that's set in stone but the Nuge-Mcd-Hyman line is arguably the best line in hockey rn.
I could imagine 7.5M working out but if Jake wants 9M+ we'd walk and for Holland, who doesn't normally go for expensive rentals, that extension price would need to be discussed up front.

Absolutely, I would. Jake Guentzel would be an excellent winger for McDavid, and honestly, wouldn’t be surprised if he would be a 90 point player. I would prefer to take one of Holloway, or Bourgault out of that trade to keep, but I think I would do it as is anyway, especially if we get him to resign.

Guentzel would do 8-8.5 imo. endorsements and the opportunity to play competitive hockey (with the best in the league) till he retires would be enough. Add 2-3 more cups. Penguins had to be undesirable for the fact they are going to suck soon and hes still pretty young

I would do that. Sign a third pair LHD, backup goalie, top 9 winger, and possibly 3c in the offseason. I’m looking at guys like Henrigue, Eberle, Seeler/Cole, DeSmith/Lankinen. Don’t necessarily need all that, but a team looking like this, would be pretty good for a cup run.

Guentzel-McDavid-Hyman
Nuge-Draisaitl-Eberle
McLeod-Henrique-Perry
Gagner-Dowd-Ryan/Lavoie

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Jensen
Seeler/Cole-Dasharnais

Skinner
DeSmith/Lankinen

A team like this would be nice but we wouldn't have the cap space next season or the season after (if we want to keep Drai).
Players like Broberg and Holloway who can fill in the middle/bottom roles for under 1.5M will be needed, being said I agree I would like Holloway removed from the deal.

8.5M would make it tight for the next 3 years, not to say it isn't doable, but it would create a massive headache of filling our roster with NHL calibre players.

Edit: If we were able to move Ceci this year and Kulak next year the cap works out fine. Moving Ceci this year would be very crucial though.
