You can't dump Brown's performance bonus.
It's on the books whether Brown is or not.
It's already been earned/paid out by Edmonton.

The only way to avoid the penalty for next year is to free up enough cap to not have an overage this year.
That's one of the biggest factors in dumping Campbell.
You can replace him with a $1M backup and (hopefully) avoid having both a penalty and a buyout hit for next season.

Also, EDM not trading 2 1sts for a 33 YO...if you are I present you 50% retained Couture. If he is healthy you get a good 3C with playoff experience...if his hip is bad you can LTIR
