Can't think of worse trades for the Leafs/
Samsonov and Markstrom are comparable at this time. Leafs certainly don't want 6m Markstrom for two full season
Tanev and Brodie are comparable
So Hanifan is worth Jarnkrok, Minten, Niemela two first??? Right.

Tanev is much better than Brodie and markstrom is better then samsonov and his contract is very reasonable for the next 2 years

I don’t speak for Calgary fans…but it sounds like the list is down to five teams (all in USA) and preferred spot is Tampa Bay.

(Maybe that is just around where he would be willing to extend…I’m not sure)

Lol the title kind of says it all but Markstrom most years is near tops in high danger save percentage and is considered upper tier. He is better than Sammy. Tanev is still playing at a high level as a 3/4 is provides exactly what teams like.
That being said, I know the trade is not looking good for a multitude of reasons on both teams. As mentioned earlier the title says it all.
Never ever happen kind of says that there is a lot of problems with said trade.

Somehow Flames fans think their 4th best Dman Tanev, is top 2 on every other team. Samsonov had problems in December but is playing well now. 6m for Markstrom for two full years? A lot better value out there.
Kinda strange don't you think that the folks think the Flames have such great Dmen and the Leafs are so bad, and that Markstrom is so good compared to Samsonov, but the Leafs and Flames have identical GAA this season .

So if Markstrom is near tops in high danger save percentage......doesn't that somthing about the Flames defence not being that good.
Sorry the Flames group of Dmen and goaltending is just about average. If Andersson and Weager are the top two Dman, what does that same about the others? Not the difference makers so many think.

Markstrom's average save percentage is .910. this year he is .913. the league average is .904. most analyst and insiders have said that Calgary's defence is still good this year. Their problem is that their leading scorer is Blake Coleman with like 40 some points. As for Tanev he has 162 blocked shots compared to 115 or something for Brodie. The gap distance and clean breakouts, Tanev ranks above Brodie according to NHL edge stats. And weegar has more points, more blocked shots with 136, way higher advanced stats over Brodie. Weegar was a top 3 D on Florida and continues to be on Calgary. Yes Calgary has many holes, but to say that Markstrom and Tanev are same or worse than Brodie and Sammy is ignoring most stats.

Also Sammy is .904 average save percentage and 2.71 goals against average where Markstrom was 2.5. so how is Sammy same or better?

Well I'm talking about NOW.
But if the Leafs defence is so bad as you seem to suggest, hence the trade for the third and fourth best Dmen from the Flames, shouldn't Samsonov GAA be higher?
Markstrom's 6m isn't a contract the Leafs want for the next two full season.

That is not what I am saying at all, I was having fun with a trade suggesting that Treliving doubles down on his old team with a crazy trade hence the title and description. While both Markstrom and Tanev are better than Sammy and Brodie is not what I necessarily believe. Markstroms deal is worth it relative to what he gives, so I want that contract no. Because there are countless examples of so called upper tier goalies not bringing their teams to the glory, shesterkin, Sarros, hellebuyck, sorokin, and I can list more. The only recent one to do it is Vasi. So paying that money when we are in a cap hell does not make sense. We are better off going the Vegas, and Colorado way with goalies. As for Tanev, his shot blocking and cleaner breakout would be a great help for the right price on resigning but he is far from the only problem on the leafs blueline. They currently only have Reilly for more elite type puck moving. Hence why we signed Klingberg but that ended a bit failure.

Also I would argue that Hanifin is their number 2, it's just that their top two blue liners play on the same side.

Well, I have, but regretfully you have watched more.
Hard to believe all these "name": players are so great when the results are so poor.

The team is just broken and they don’t have one elite player, just a bunch of “good” players which doesn’t get it done in the NHL.

Well, I agree. Unfortunately some bad long term contracts too.
95% of the time, these TDL trades never help the buyers. In the Leafs case.100%. The Leafs have so few prospects and picks, to me it's insane to trade some away for non difference makers upcoming UFAs.
